Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I was seriously considering a 996 after test driving an '01 but they were still out of my price range for now.

Very, very nice. I just bought an '87. I was seriously considering a 996 after test driving an '01 but they were still out of my price range for now. Great cars though.

Hi,
No...I just sold the '85. While I could swing it financially, I don't have the space at all. I got a decent price, and it's going to someone as their first p car, so it's all good. I know I'll miss it, but the creature comforts that will allow for me drive the new one daily outweighs anything else.
In the event I get another down the road....it will be a cab with a g50 anyway.
Best,
I think you bought the right year--the first 3.6 year. I looked at an 01 C4 , and finally decided on an 03 Boxster (looks like the black one with the tan interior in the background of one of your pics). The C4 had an RMS at just 27K miles, and that could have been a warning sign. Plus the cost difference was substantial.
I also tend to favor water-cooling over oil-cooling, having had an SC. The later model cars also have better front end cooling ventilation, and should have less oil leak problems over their lifetime, though that didn't seem to help the 3.4 engine.
