Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run )' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run )' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
it would most likely still run with bore scoring, see if it will run by spraying easy start into the air intake this should give indication on if it's a fuel issue

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone, first post here!
I've been looking for a 'project' 911 for a while (I've had a 928 and 944 but always wanted a 911). Recently I found one which MIGHT be perfect but could also quite easily be an absolute disaster.
The car is a 2001 996, in great condition with good history, BUT it cranks but won't fire. The garage have done no diagnostics at all so it could be easy CPS, fuel supply, relay etc OR could be bore scoring (as they have been told by the previous owner that he thought it might be a compression issue). I would have thought scoring would have different symptoms, and this sounds more like fuel or sensor issues.
Here's a video of the attempted starting:

Anyone got any thoughts on this?
Thanks!
Welcome, i think the smoke from the left exhaust is a give away that the AOS is probably shot, or cracked cylinder head. Is there any intermix of oil in the coolant or vice versa..?
Possible bore score on bank 2..?
Good luck mate.
Further info: No signs of mayonnaise, no signs of gasket issues, no oil in coolant.
Car was in good working order, then customer experienced a sudden breakdown. Local garage (not Porsche specialists) told him it probably needed a rebuild and he didn't take it any further so is just cutting his losses. It's not been opened up for investigation.
The tempting part is the £6k price tag. Amazing value, but only if it's not an engine rebuild!!
I saw this one on Autotrader and wondered about it! Bore scoring doesn't generally cause it not not start - fuel or electrical would defintely be first place to look. It might well have bore scoring as well, but it's mighty tempting. Fair play to the garage for sending you video.

Could be no fuel getting through. Even if bore scored it should still run.
As has been said read the data and report back. If engine is a problem then the car should be assessed as scrap. 6k is a good price.
I asked the garage if they'd try spraying EasyStart in, but they said they didn't want to do anything which might make any damage worse (e.g. forcing it to run). I guess if I'm really serious I should just drive the 2.5 hours to see it
Sounds a little bit like too good to be true. I wonder why the garage wouldn’t fix it and sell it on for more money? but maybe they know it could cost a few quid to make it good.
