Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Had a local specialist give it a once over before starting, engine oil has been replaced and old fuel disposed/replaced as well as the fuel pump which had deteriorated, thankfully no leaks.

Had a 986 3.2s previously and have also found a number of bits that I had left in the loft including a well used RTS for it - will be taking photos ready to move on.

Suggestion
Start it up and just let it idle for a bit and check for leaks then rev it up carefully and build up temp keeping an eye on oil pressure.
Check rubber brake hoses and personally i'd take calipers off

Suggestion
yeah I would check rubber brake hoses and personally I'd take calipers off and clean up the pistons and fit new seals and flush with new fluids.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all - long time lurker on and off but not posted before.
Recently moved back from abroad and have taken my 996.1 out of the container it was stored in for a long time. Just about to order BC coilovers, Brembo brake kits and new rubber. Needed new fuel pump and battery to get it going and out of the container. There is a bit of corrosion on the brake line by one of the clips and having a look at that too, am sure there will be other things such as perishables etc that will need replacing. Am trying to balance how much to spend really, it had quite a lot spent on it before I left and am sure along with others have funded Design 911 marketing budget!

Well, that’s it - just wanted to say hello and thank you to those that share their knowledge and experiences.
Wow, 15 years...I hope it was dry in the container?
Maybe change all the fluids? I don't know how the suspension rubber bushings will be, if they go hard and brittle over time?
Good luck!
(photos are always appreciated
)
Thanks for the comments, I’ll post some pics tonight - the weather today is amazing here!
thanks and yes, was dry. There is a farm near me where the guy has over a hundred new shipping containers that he rents out which are great value and has been in one most of the time. Fluids definitely, and will run through the rubber perishables.
Thanks!
I’m hoping it’s not too much though agree will be great and a lot of fun to have back - keen to get it around Europe this summer.
! 15 years does make it sound like it’s perished and needs a lot of work but honestly it’s in pretty good condition and am hoping that the recommission process is straight forward [famous last words!
]
Obvs tyres will need replacing
So just trying to add up what you've paid to store it for 15yrs. I mean up here in Scottish Borders a 20ft new container cost £85/month , down South it's more like £250 so even at £100/month that's £18000 for 15yrs!
yeah I would check rubber brake hoses and personally I'd take calipers off and clean up the pistons and fit new seals and flush with new fluids.
Engine , Coolant and gearbox will need replacing
Start it up and just let it idle for a bit and check for leaks then rev it up carefully and build up temp keeping an eye on oil pressure.
Good luck , should be really good fun getting it going again.
Thanks - trying not to think about how much I’ve spent on storage
...
You’re spot on and I’ll certainly do this. Had a local specialist give it a once over before starting, engine oil has been replaced and old fuel disposed/replaced as well as the fuel pump which had deteriorated, thankfully no leaks. All fluids flush will be done once I’ve got the new brake kits and bits on. Am building a list of things to get sorted in some sort of prioritised way.
Great to read of someone who has other than investment value as a priority relative to a Classic where the numbers seem to be impossible by the way of advantageous financial returns....
Wishing you all the best with the recommissioning task.
