Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

These cars are getting old now and could easily swallow up £££thousands and it’s no guarantee spending more means you’ll spend less in the long run but buying one from someone that’s looked after it definitely helps.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone had experience of buying via Car & Classic? There seems to be no option of viewing a car before making an offer (not auction). What possibly looks like a lovely 996 coupe, but it looks like you have to pay the money before seeing the car! 1999 Porsche 911(996) C2 For Sale Make an offer on this Porsche 911 currently up for offer via Car And Classic Auctions www.carandclassic.com

POST 2Original post

Not had any previous dealings myself . Doesn't look like it's too tidy an example to me. Paintwork needs alot of attention, wheels need a refurb, tyres are approaching 8 years old....... it's gonna cost thousands to get it looking half decent, even if she does present as an " honest " 996. Plenty more available for a few grand more in far better condition, on the surface.

Yes, but it depends what the offer is of course Also the interior upsets me. I was more interested in the process of buying via C&C, as often nice things come up.

POST 4Original post

Don't you just make an offer, that gets fed back to the seller and if he accepts it, you then arrange a viewing?

POST 5Original post

Forgive my negativity but why would someone take photos of a car in that state expecting it to sell...?

POST 6Original post

Because they're a numpty.......country's full of 'em.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was watching this when it was on auction - bidding stopped at £8k, which obviously didn't hit his reserve, then it reappeared as an offer. I've just read their terms, and I don't like them at all! Basically you have to pay a non-refundable fee to C&C BEFORE you make an offer. They seems to take a lot of money for doing very little! I think I'd much rather deal directly with a seller or dealer

Yes, did my constant thread questions give it away? I've now got a shortlist of cars, asked the relevant questions and going to see the first one at the weekend. The forum has been great for clarifying a lot of things.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think we may have covered this on another thread, but I'd prefer manual, not that bothered either way, cabriolet or coupe is fine (if coupe, preferably sunroof). C2 or C4, 3.4 or 3.6 subject to history especially on 3.6, happy to do quite lot of work myself as I have the skills and time (but not engine out!) Budget under £14k, within a couple of hours travel of Bath, unless it's exceptional. Not too worried about paint / wheel condition as I'm happy to do this stuff myself. So as you can tell I'm not too fussy, but I'll know the right car when I see it.

POST 12Original post

A colleague of mine has just sourced one up here in Staffs from the indie we both use. He's been on the lookout for a 996 for a while... viewed loads and all were below par on inspection and to a point mis-advertised and he wasn't that fussy about spec too much. When one starts to look into the detail on these and specs etc..... there aren't that many decent ones around it seems. Take a look on AT at the number of 1999 manual coupes for sale for instance, either C2 or C4 and the numbers are pretty low. Good luck.... pity your budget aint a little higher as we could be discussing my 99 C4.

POST 13Original post

As mentioned by Skoosh maybe try and extend your budget slightly as that might get you into something slightly better. These cars are getting old now and could easily swallow up £££thousands and it’s no guarantee spending more means you’ll spend less in the long run but buying one from someone that’s looked after it definitely helps.

POST 14Original post

I think the OP has made it clear he/she doesn't have a problem buying on a budget then doing the work his/herself. Parts are dirt cheap and if you're a dab hand with the spanners then it's a very quick and easy way in to 911 ownership. IMHO it's better to buy cheap and get cheap rather than buy expensive and still get something cheap masquerading as expensive, something I have seen happen so many times.
