Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

just got a 996 40 anni and its now nearly 22 years old. mileage is 67k wondering if its time to change the engine mounts and gear box mounts as am sure they are original ones? have done the Type 911 RS mounts and powerflex gearbox inserts on 996 and 997 models and it almost transforms the car. thoughts? just get it done?

POST 2Original post

If they are the factory fitted ones they must be well past their best surely?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i think so peter and will go for the Type 911 semi solid ones and the PF gearbox insert. car already has the Alex SSK.

POST 4Original post

Mine was on 84k when i changed to the RS mounts and i couldnt feel much of a difference, so i think mine were still good somehow! I more recently did the powerflex gearbox insert and felt a greater difference from this!

POST 5Original post

did engine mounts on mine last year and it was just under 60k. they were shot and well ready for changing. I replaced with RSS mounts and they're great

POST 6Original post

I’m interested to know, without removing the mounts how you judge their condition? Mine, I think are original at 92K miles and 16 years old.

POST 8Original post

As above. However you will know if they need changing by looking at the tail pipes which should be level. Get a torch, lay on your back and look up at the mounts. There will be a black sticky residue if they are leaking or have leaked. But at 16 years old there should be plenty of life left in them.....unless they leak.

POST 9Original post

Mine weren't shot at just 5 years old, but the RSS were so much better. I'd replace them.

POST 10Original post

As Martin T mentioned look at your exhausts that can be a good indicator as the gap between top of exhausts and the cut out on the bumper increases

POST 11Original post

If it's the only thing the car needs then do them. If there is something demanding more attention then do that first. At this age there is always a list of things to do.
