Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It's worth buying a battery tester, I checked the porsche and that was 75%.

Further checking showed it was actually quite old (dated), but it looked brand new.

It is actually a VAG part (even Porsche use the VAG Number) 4A0 905 849 B up to '03 models and 4B0 905 849 for '04 onwards.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

- Yesterday I also got a 58min wait for the oil measurement (see attached) when since it's gone back to normal.
Hi All,
My battery recently died (forgot to plug my trickle charger) and it killed the cell so I had to get a brand new battery which was easily replaced.
In the same period I changed my key fobs case and batteries as they were both tired.
Since then, I am having a couple of issues:
- none of my key fobs works anymore. I tried the couple of suggestions always mentioned but with no luck.
- I am getting intermittent starts, turn the key, I hear the click but the engine do not try to start at all. Some times in work some times it does not. Seems random.
- Yesterday I also got a 58min wait for the oil measurement (see attached) when since it's gone back to normal.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Ignition switches can cause all sorts of odd electrical behaviour and might even have contributed to a drain on the old battery. It is actually a VAG part (even Porsche use the VAG Number) 4A0 905 849 B up to '03 models and 4B0 905 849 for '04 onwards.
A fiddly but fairly straightforward change for a DIYer, particularly if you have smaller hands and not ham fists, but research RHD guides as the assembly is inverted compared to LHD so access is different to free the switch. Basically work through the right hand dash vent and from below; it appears to be easier than for LHD..
(I've written a 'How To' on BoXa.net from when I did my 986 switch; the 986 and 996 are the same in this respect)
Didn't buy your battery from a well known online battery seller did you?
I did and it was totally dead. Further checking showed it was actually quite old (dated), but it looked brand new. I found out after much messing around with the Mercedes dealer, assuming I had a new battery, ended up buying a battery tester. After I sent it back, he charged it up and told me it was OK! Eventually got a refund. It's worth buying a battery tester, I checked the porsche and that was 75%.
Reading between the lines, or not, I've had good service from tayna.com for a number of batteries. Good range of stock, well priced (usually but do check) and delivery is prompt.
Here's the comedy reply i got after i returned the battery, was bought as an 800CCA battery. A refund was issued after my followup. I'm surprised they even tried it on, but if you read the reviews it's actually quite common.
