Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The fix usually ends up as new key head electronics and repairing the 'new' key to the car.
Leading evidence: 'Repair 'new' key' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair 'new' key' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Some months back the remote became temperamental, would only unlock close up so I changed the battery.

My remote has also been malfunctioning and so I have only been locking the car using the door lock cylinder.

Initially it worked well, now the car does not respond to the fob (red light flashes) and I have to use the key.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Evening all…I’m having key issues..again!
Some months back the remote became temperamental, would only unlock close up so I changed the battery. Initially it worked well, now the car does not respond to the fob (red light flashes) and I have to use the key. The alarm goes off every time I unlock it!
I’m sure it’s something easy….whats the solution?
I don't understand how you lock the car, via key? If it arms the alarm without issues that's strange to have it not work only for unlocking. While looking for a fix you can lock the car by turning the key in the keyslot, that should make it so it doesn't beep when you unlock it.
I’ve had the same problem for about two years. I even went in to the pillar and stripped the wire a little with no effect. It’s like the transponder pill just withered and died.
The transponder only affects the ability to crank the starter.
My remote has also been malfunctioning and so I have only been locking the car using the door lock cylinder.
While I have had the alarm go off in the past, it hasn’t been doing that lately because I place my key in the ignition and turn it on within 5 seconds of opening the door.
If your alarm has been going off immediately within opening the door, i would guess that you have a malfunctioning switch or sensor in your door. The immobilizer ECU still believes your car is locked, because it’s not receiving notification that the door has been unlocked, and sounds the alarm because it thinks there was forced entry.
You may well have come up against the known 986/996 runs out of codes to cycle on the encryption.

JMG probably know more about these alarms than the factory does by now.
Just for reference - if you unlock the door with the key you then have a timed window to get the key in the ignition and turn it on. If you don't, the alarm is programmed to go off. It's supposed to do that so there's no issue there. It's just your fob playing up. My guess is the battery is low in the fob caused by a very small drain on the fob.
My one and only fob stopped working a while back.
The battery reversal didn't work. I also tried the pixels fixed guy but he never seems to make it down far enough (he's from Scotland).
The lights flash on the remote but no lock or unlock. I have to unlock the car via the key and then insert it into the ignition within a few seconds.
If not the alarm goes off, rightfully in this case.
