I installed the new-to-me seats and found that the driver seat that we removed (power adaptive comfort seat) has a black box under the seat that does the seat memory control.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have adaptive seats with seat heating in my 997 C2S. I am interested in buying some adaptive sport seats that are on eBay that do not have the heater elements in them. Can I add the OEM heater elements to the sport seats mentioned above?

POST 2Original post

Possibly - a while back when I was looking to add heating elements to my non-heated seats, I looked at an exploded diagram of the seats, and it looked like it might be possible to install the stock heating elements without too much trouble, however I really don't know for sure. One problem might be the electrical connector under the seat which doesn't currently have heaters, and whether it could accomodate the connectors from the seat elements. If you do try it let us know how it works out.

POST 3Original post

Simple answer is yes. The truth is that it's not worth it. If I remember correctly the heating elements are part of the padding. So to do it right you need to disassemble the entire seat and buy new padding. I have taken apart many seats and it is no fun. EDIT: to add what KS-CS said: The new elements will have the connectors as part of the harness. It should be "plug and play".

POST 4Original post

Thanks for your input. I have a spare sport seat (non powered) out of another car that has the heat feature. I guess I could swap out the heated pads in that seat into one of the seats that I am considering buying. That would have me purchasing one set of seat padding that has the heat element in it. I have a very good upholstery shop that could do the labor. I'm realy missing the feel of the sports seats that came in my last Porsche. They were also the up-graded leather which was also very nice. The stock leather in my current feels kind of "Volkswagon-ish" I'll keep you posted.

POST 5Original post

Update: The seats I bought are sport seats, with power. Unfortunatly their appears to be another "layer" to the option seats: sport, power Adaptive seats. I installed the new-to-me seats and found that the driver seat that we removed (power adaptive comfort seat) has a black box under the seat that does the seat memory control. I looked up the PN to confirm. Also found the price for said box: $1050.00!!! The new seat (sport/power) does not have a "black Box" under the seat, and the seat will not "work". no power to the seat controls. I bought the sport seats for over $3K and I want them to work. Any suggestions? I guess I could find +power coming in to the harness that is meant to connect the black box memory unit on the stock seats, and this would allow the seats to function manually. Update from this morning: The seats I bought were sold as adaptive sport seats. Their is no memory "box" installed in the seat. So I think I have an issue with the seller. Although the Porsche website does not offer power seats w/o memory in the current model, they must have at some point during the 997.1 production run. (there is no evidence of any parts removal from the seats I bought.) If I could add the correct black box and wiring to the sport driver seat, that would be even better.
