Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All Could anyone tell me what the symptoms are if a coil pack is on the way out. I think I may have one on the way out but I am not sure. kind regards Andy

POST 2Original post

Misfire generally, usually get an engine check light too.

POST 3Original post

It will also store a fault code. It will be P030*, where * is the cylinder number. You can read the fault codes with a simple hand held scan tool.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard, On the way back home yesterday after a trip out, the engine felt a little hesitant at times and the Rev counter on tick over was slightly unstable when sat in traffic. My initial thoughts were that it may be a coil pack on the way out. Andy

POST 5Original post

A Variocam solenoid is another possibility, which causes loss of power and a lumpy idle. I that case, you get P030* codes for the whole bank.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard Would that be a big job to replace? Kind regards Andy

POST 7Original post

If it is the solenoid coil, which it usually is, then it isn't a huge job, but it would be best to get it done by a specialist. Get the fault codes read. Without them it is largely guesswork.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks again Richard, your valuable knowledge is very much appreciated. I will take it in to my local independent and have those codes read. Kind regards Andy
