Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks, I have bought a stick on number plate for my 996 C4S and removed the 2 round bungs that the old holder screwed into. Is it advisable to just stick it on or do I need to fill the holes with something before applying the sticker?

POST 2Original post

I'd fill the holes and smooth them over before the plate goes on. Otherwise you'll see the holes through the plate.

POST 3Original post

I just stuck mine on. The vinyl is thick enough that you can't see the holes. I also wanted to be able to change it back if the next buyer wanted the plate holder back on.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, that's what I was hoping for.

POST 5Original post

Can we have more details please? Where did you buy it from? Is it legal? Pics to follow? :thumb:

POST 6Original post

Here's a picture of mine on my RS60. I did fill the holes as part of a front end respray. Can't remember which site I bought from but the larger ones have a range of plates including legal stick ons. Passed many MOTs since.

POST 7Original post

How sensitive are they to the curve of the bumper? I look at my 986 front PU and I wonder where it would most like to go.

POST 8Original post

I had a stick on plate for a while and the curve was okay but when viewed from the front it looked like the plate was curving up at the sides, it bugged me enough to go back to the holder.

POST 9Original post

In between your 1,386th wheel and 1,387th wheel change yeah?!

POST 11Original post

None of the stick on ones are legal, they don't meet British Standards.

POST 12Original post

Coullstar  How likely to get a tug then?

POST 13Original post

Fairly unlikely. Look at all the '4D' plates around. None of those are legal.

POST 14Original post

The legal compliance of stick on plates has been aired before. My 996 GT3 has worn a stick on plate for many years. Other cars (E type Jag, etc) have adorned stick on plates without any difficulty. My understanding is that the British Standard for rigid plates can't apply. My GT3 has the BS number on the plate. Never had any issues from Mr Plod or any MOT tester. Thanks.
