Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hj guys can anyone help I have a 996 c4 cab , and for some reason it will not start ,it allways starts ,its regularly serviced , an has a good battery , but it turns over but won't fire up , I can hear petrol pump working , an it's full of fuel , can this be an immobiliser problem , any help would be grateful . Thanks frank .

POST 2Original post

The immobiliser inhibits cranking, fuel, and ignition, so it won't be that. If the fuel pump is running, it is either flooded, or there is no spark. Try leaving it for an hour, and give it a good crank with the throttle wide open. If that doesn't work, then it could be the crankshaft position sensor, but these usually break down when the engine is hot. If you know someone with a Porsche tester, or even a hand held OBD2 scanner, see if there are any fault codes logged.

POST 4Original post

The only time my 1998 C2 has failed to start was when I just ran it for a few minutes getting it out the garage and then an hour later it wouldn't start. I thought I had turned it over more than enough but obviously not. I called out a breakdown service and the chap reckoned it was just flooded and kept it turning over for ages. I would have given up long before he did but eventually it did splutter into life. Your problem sounds similar so just hold that key turning it over.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh really steve oh thanks , bloody thing was going to enjoy some sunshine for the first time , but it sounds very similar to your problem , I will try as you said , so thanks for quick reply . frank.
