I changed the oil roughly 4k ago and haven't had to add a drop until a day or so after this happened.

I believe they've been changed once in the car's life (99K miles).

My 996 was the first manual car I owned so I stalled it plenty of times it's still running strong haha

And for some reason, I feel like it's using oil, when it didn't before.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Apologies in advance if this comes off as a novice post... sort of confused here.
I accidentally picked my left foot up and popped the clutch in first gear, and on the first start of the day. It was sitting overnight, outside, in roughly 15-degree weather. Definitely a very aggressive "thud" when it happened that rang through the cabin. I run M1 0W-40 in the winter, albeit it is my first season with the car in general.
Any other time/car, I wouldn't think twice about the mishap, only it seems to be making a slight knock at warm idle. And for some reason, I feel like it's using oil, when it didn't before. It dropped 1 bar on the electronic readout over ~3K miles, but I had to add a half a quart this past weekend. Granted, I made a trip up to CT on Saturday, so two days after the mishap (lots of driving and the car performed normally).
I changed the oil roughly 4k ago and haven't had to add a drop until a day or so after this happened. Maybe a coincidence given that it has been some time since I first added any oil, but I don't know.
As far as the slight knock at warm idle, it goes away when any throttle is applied, and it seems to be non-existent if the car is on a downslope (nose pointed down, *** in the air). Sometimes, it doesn't happen at all, especially if I drive the car hard.
All in all there are no lights, no misfires, etc... It runs like it did before this. I remember listening to it prior to this and it sounded like a buttery smooth sewing machine, however it sounds a tad more "chatter-y" now. Maybe it's all in my head though.
Any input? Find it hard to believe something like this caused internal damage.
Thanks
Edit: should add there are no signs of intermix, no leaks at the rms, no aos symptoms, nothing...
Same. I'm not an expert either but I would think it is just a coincidence and if there is an issue it's caused by something else.
My 996 was the first manual car I owned so I stalled it plenty of times it's still running strong haha
That's not uncommon to add oil after a road-trip on a car that's normally driven around on shortish trips. The oil builds up moisture from the short trips, displacing normal oil consumption and the level stays unchanged. Then you take a road-trip, the oil gets very hot for extended periods, and bam, burns off the moisture, oil level drops. Normal and expected.
The oil consumption seems within the normal range. The other symptoms you describe should probably be investigated further though.
Can you give more info about the car? Miles? Is the left tailpipe more sooty than the right? Does the tick souls like its coming from the passenger side? Video of the engine running?
How old - and in what condition - are the motor mounts?
Dumping the clutch like that is not going to do much damage. However, a failing mount could have caused the engine to twist, hitting some other part of the car, which could cause something that was fastened before to now float or knock around. Think large coolant hoses, any brackets, sensors, wires, etc. I would start investigating and isolating any noise you hear.
01/98. 99K miles. No, no soot. It does sound like it's coming from the passenger side, but am unsure. I can take a video after work and upload.
Motor mounts look fine - no fluid. I believe they've been changed once in the car's life (99K miles). I would agree with you, but if that were the case, I'd imagine something about the car would've changed. If coolant hose, then coolant loss. If vacuum hose, then bouncing idle. If sensor, then CEL. Etc., Etc... I have none of that.
That he was....

Thanks for the therapy, all. I feel better now.
Released in 1966 and oh so very valid still today!
To the OP the first couple of years of my ownership I heard all kinds of scary noises. First adjustment I had to make was accepting all the noise coming from behind the back seat area! Just keep your eyes and ears on it. You should be good.
Yeah, so not burning any oil. Also wanted to mention that a quarter can of seafoam down the oil fill tube / ~50 miles of driving got rid of the tick. Sounds much better now at idle.
