I do use my 992 GT3 Touring as a daily - that was the idea at least hence also the full winter wheels / tyres option but I find myself taking my Defender more when i need to make telephone calls etc as the GT3 is too loud.

For daily use i would take the GTS above, but if its for the Odd track day i would take the GT3, you can daily a PDK 992.1 GT3 fine i did 17k miles in mine in as many months, but if i had to pick one as a daily car it would be the GTS every time, it just has a bigger range of comfort than the GT3, and press a few buttons when the road condition's allow and its great fun also, you have to work the GT3 a lot harder to find the fun spots also.

I need help, advice, opinion.
Ive been looking to scratch an itch, the GT3, some stunning 992.1's around that tick the boxes.
However, looking at the price, the 992.2 4GTS is around the same price (if not slightly less), newer car, longer warranty, more bhp, quicker 0-60, and the potential to be a proper daily.
So, is it a better car than the 992.1 GT3? What am I missing?
Help!
Define 'better' ? objectively they are both highly capable 911's, but only one of them is a GT3.
The real question is which one is better, for you?
And as has been said, you need to drive an example of each.
Great problem to have, enjoy the shopping.

Do you want a GTS to daily or a GT3 to drive?
Do you want a Turbo engine car which is 225KG more weight and 4WD ?
Or a GT3 which is none of those things and quite a busy car to drive.
I dislike turbo cars for fun I dislike 4WD for fun I dislike heavy cars for anything.
But some owners are Badge buyers and the 4WD GTS is a safer car to drive and have zero interest how a car drives.
I don't drive my 992 GT3 as a daily, but I do drive another Porsche as a daily, So I would say buy both.
Unless retired I would not daily a GT3. I always think you need 4 cars at least to cover all bases although 5 is better, so no such thing as 992.2 4 GTS vs a GT3 imo. A 992 4 GTS is like a Posh Golf R :-) so you could buy a GT3 and a Golf R !

I currently drive a 992.1 4 GTS and am having similar thoughts for my next change, but I think I am going to go the GT3 Touring route, with 18 way seats, as this is a special car, which, at my age! I can also use as a daily drive. However, I haven’t rules out a 992.1 TTS ( my wife has a back condition which rules out bucket seats)
Absolutely gts as a daily , gt3 as weekend car .
Gt3 is utterly brilliant but the opportunity to utilise its engine properly is very limited on public roads .

GTS is faster so makes no sense.
Anything over 300hp today is very limited on public roads.
You can potter about in a GT3 if you wish, it's not the engine as to why I don't it's how busy the drive is vs my GTS.

The gt3 needs revs , so you are going ridiculously fast already when the magic happens , yes you can potter about in it but you are missing most of the fun .I had one for 5 years and used it a lot but the nature of its performance means you end up travelling way too fast and ultimately I found cars with more torque lower down are better suited for British roads as you can experience the performance at more sensible speeds .

That’s kind of my problem with the 992 GTS. Mine feels like I’m in a slightly posher Audi S3 and isn’t exciting or eventful until on some decent roads and at higher speeds - and I’ve got the RWD manual. There’s no steering feel whatsoever at low speed and the engine sounds flat.
I know the OP is looking at a .2 so it’s probably different but if he wants any kind of excitement and doesn’t need to daily drive it I’d say it has to be a GT3.
And I agree with your statement about needing 4/5 cars to cover all bases - it’s just a bit expensive!
Have done 6k miles in both 2 WD and 4 GTS 992.2. Hybrid Cabs so far this year.
Brilliant cars, its great that the GTS gets it own engine now, as equally impressive as the speed and power 0-60 under 2.5 is US tests is the balance and the way the car drives, the engine sits 100mm lower now it really helps with the balance over the last ones, also the damping and steering has been improved, it now has a much wider range in comfort and sports mode. Personally i think its the best all round daily car that they have made for a long time, and its sounds great.
992.1. GT3 as daily also.

Really appreciate all the feedback and opinions so far.
4 / 5 cars would certainly do it, if only....
For the sort of money we are talking, it would pain me to leave it sat on the drive, that being said, it doesn't have to be daily, ive got a 'run around' and im only commuting a few days a week.
Part of my concern with the GT3 is that im not going to use it to its potential, but, its a GT3!
I had considered the 992.1 4GTS, but im currently in a 992.1 C4S, and it doesn't feel like too much of a change.
Ive gone round in circles on it a few times.
Good advice on driving both, yet to do that, but its good yo hear from the poster that has put several thousand miles on both.

I’m in a 992.1 c4s - can I ask what’s not quite doing it for you?
In sport plus I think the car is more than almost anyone viably needs on the road or can handle.
I’ve been down this path and my conclusion will wait until 992.2 gts or artura are a bit cheaper and just enjoy what I have, maybe with the Lichfield stage 2 in the interim which is only 4k and takes the car to 600hp
Just to add, I went into the Peak District in a gt3 rs and the floor was scraping in various places.
I question the improvement of gt3 or carrera with sport pasm on a lot of roads vs just pressing the suspension button with normal pasm
Happy to be educated from someone without cognitive dissonance!

Oh dont get me wrong, ive loved every moment in my C4S, its been fantastic, its not that its not doing it for me, its just that natural progression, itchy feet thing.
I think you have it wrong…
992.1 GT3 or 992.1 Turbo S
Why would you choose a 4WD GTS hybrid over the daddy turbo S.
The Turbo S is much better daily than the GTS.
The 800v system on those things is worth a drive re torque fill , steering response, included adaptive suspension etc. it’s not actually clear cut as a cohesive product which car out of the turbo s and the gts is better - or so I hear!
I have a GT3 touring and I think that it’s too loud for daily use. Both road and engine noise. The 992GT3 is much more track biased than its predecessor so what was previously a 991GT3RS is now a 992GT3. You could even argue that the 992GT3RS is more compliant for normal roads in its softest suspension setting.
I never understood the positioning of the 4 GTS; how is it different from a turbo?
4WD, PDK, turbo?
It’s a completely different proposition to a RWD, n/a, (manual?)

having had a GT3 .1 with 18 way: still a stiff car....but owners i know are getting the aftermarket suspension software to make it as compliant as the ST. this putting the .1 GT3 in the realms of a comfortable road car. again just personal, the GT3T just looks stunning with its aero and lowered stance, its addiction comes alive when it is being pushed.
as a previous reply said......you have to drive( preferably hard) a GT3 once in your life to understand what the fuss is about.
992.1 TTS , stunning looking and performance car and incredibly capable for a daily.. apologies in advance to owners as its a first world nag, the TTS lack the drama of a GT product.
having driven the .2 GTS on road and track, the 'hybrid' engine just take this car to another level and starts to encroach on the .1 TTS

That's interesting to hear @hornbaek. I've been in Caymans for some years now, currently a GTS 4.0 that was intended for winter daily use, and a GT4 RS for fun and track days. The intent had always been that the GT4 RS would be a 3-season daily, much like my old 981 GT4 was. It's very noisy, quite frenetic, and stands out a bit too much in the supermarket car park, so I've not been using it anything like as much. It's a keeper, but not really a daily drive.
I love the Cayman GTS 4.0. Doesn't stand out much from the crowd, but it really is a superb car in every way. Manual 'box, because for whatever reason, I always do if I can. I use it most of the time for everything.
I've always thought I ought to have a 911 at some point in life, so I have been thinking about a GT3 Touring to replace the Cayman GTS 4.0. Obviously not for the "salty roads" bit of winter, but as a daily that sits somewhere between the GTS 4.0 and the GT4 RS. In fact I've been thinking about it enough that I've asked my favourite OPC to put me on the list for potential 2026 allocations. I really liked the idea of a manual one, and even if I don't get an allocation, there might be some used availability when the time comes.
From what you are saying, it seems a 992 GTS might be a better bet? I'd be stuck with PDK, just as I am with the GT4 RS. But it does seem to be a very competent and fast "do anything" sports car.
Apologies OP for a slight thread diversion. No interest in a 4-wheel-drive version. I've got an old Skoda Yeti for that.
Liam
Has anyone daily'd a GT3? I think thats what im learning towards. As someone said, everyone needs one once.
Im northern Scotland, the climate is a concern, would it be lethal in cold and/or wet?
I do have alternative runaround, but spending that sort of money, I really want to drive it. Only commute a few days a week.
Stupid idea?
Most people do have other cars rather than put their daily mileage onto an expensive car, but they can be used as a daily drive and with the right tyres cope with all weather ...
For all weather use I like M PS4S tyres ... there are others ... and they aren't even too bad on the track maxing out at around 1.3g so long as care is taken with tyre pressures and they are not overheated.
My 2p !!
If you went for the GTS, over GT3, I think you will kick yourself and always say "what if". From the sounds of it, you don't need to daily it due to the other car and it will certainly prove to be more of an occasion and event as and when you do drive it. If you need 4wd then why now look at a Turbo/S as a few others have mentioned. Financially I would expect the GT3 will have better % residual too.

I went from a Carrera S to an RS product. It is like a different world
GT and RS products are so very very special. That’s it!
I use my GT3 Touring as a daily car and i also have a full set of winter tyres/wheels. I also drive mostly on de restricted Autobahns and above 4000 rpm it s just too loud inside the cabin. This is not a problem if you don t drive faster than the otherwise 70-80 mph normal motorway speeds. Secondly, i find that if you switch into sport mode you avoid a really irritating droning sound when in the normal setting.

I also daily my GT3s and have a 997.2 which I also use on Winters. I prefer my 3s on long journeys (like 5h to the Ring) to my wife's Macan as I find buckets much more comfortable than the 18 ways

The 992.1 GT3 is my choice for weekends & fun, but on the road whilst it feels v special, on track it’s amazing! Personally I wouldn’t go for a GTS as a daily & would have a manual 911T without rear wheel steering, as this feels v similar(ish) on road to a GT3, less expense, but still not a GT3!

Golf GTI performance as daily (MK7) - it works, is reliable, cheap to maintain and gives you all the thrills you need. 911 for the weekends.

Bizarrely is more expensive to insure than my 991.1
I've got a 992.1 GTS and compared to my 991.1 C2S (with sports suspension) it is both busy and too fast to enjoy on the road.
And if you go to the track, like me, you will say to yourself "it's not a GT3".
I rented a base 992 Carrera and frankly, having fun was more accessible on the road than the GTS.
The GT3 is really not a road car.
Now, I would not buy either of your suggestions for the road. I would recommend your drive every model you can get your hands on.

Just an update, thanks to everyone for the advice and replies,
As many said, it really came down to a personal choice on this one, pros and cons to both cars, once I thought I had chosen, the next day I had changed my mind and round I went again and again,
In the end I decided on the 992.2 4 GTS,
I am a few weeks in and loving every moment and every mile,
Thanks again all, this is what makes PH a great place!
