My MY22 GT3 needed its 2nd service/4th year early because Porsche did the 1st service/2nd year early as I purchased it as an approved used car.

My standard 991.2 GT3 (manual) will be 13,000 miles by early 2026. My OPC has quoted me - £3453 - for it's 8 year service in the new year Is this really correct???
That seems unjustifiable to me.
Thoughts welcome please !
Porsche servicing costs are madness, my 4yr old Spyder needs a service and the first quote i've had is over £2,100 and its only done 2,750 miles!
I'll be calling around some other Porsche dealers as others have managed to get the price down to around £1,500 for the same 4yr service.
Yes, I have just been quoted £3543.97 for oil, brake fluid, filters, spark plugs and PDK clutch fluid ... though the car has had three interim oil changes and spanner checks in the last 10,000 miles since the last OPC service.
They say it takes 9 hours to do all this work ... does it really ??

I went through the same shock on mine for the same service, on average after chatting to 4 or 5 OPC's most would come in around £3k if pressed.

Maybe they've assumed a lot of that mileage was done on track and far more work is needed?
The spanner checks and early oil changes / brake fluid change should have accounted for that ... and the person who quoted had no idea how the car was used. It is also a drive to and from / road trip car ... I fitted an early new set of P S Cups and used up the original set of PS4S this year ... (though both still have plenty of tread on them).
Aren't these cars built to do that ?
I’ll be due the 8yr on same car next July. I’m tempted to try some known specialists, as I’m less than impressed with OPCs I’ve dealt with in general. I assume that as long as it’s down to the required spec, warranty is fine ? Any thoughts.

That can't be right surely - if one could use an Indie and still be eligible for continued warranty then that would break Porsche's business model.
Has to have a Porsche service every two years to maintain a continuous warranty, if you want to service independent between those two years that’s fine.
The cost is real for sure,my car had just 4500 miles fitted with new plugs etc!
They remove the wheels and rear bumper during the service, plus two exhaust brackets which were 120 each.
The car will never go to a uk opc again,i was with out it for three weeks after some major cockups.

Drive belt and tensioner as well at 8 years?
I'll be in a similar boat in March. I had thought the schedule was Minor/Major/Minor/Major ad infinitum. It's a major at 8 years. The last major was £1500 back in 2022. I have 18 months Porsche warranty remaining, so had thought that a main dealer service was the right way to go. At over £3k for a relatively simple set of tasks, it seems excessive.
Had a recent first service on my GT3, the bonnet was open for about 2.5 hours, cost over £1500..
At the same time had a 6 year service on my M135i at a BMW dealer, cost £330, inc loan car..
I just can’t get my head round why the Porsche service is around 5 times the BMW one, do they have to send Porsche a £500 fee for using their diagnostics, perhaps to keep the warranty costs reasonable?
It s madness prices. Porsche have got this all wrong, their warranty is too cheap and servicing too expensive. They should put the warranty up to £2k per year, still a bargain compared to Ferrari and Mclaren and bring down the servicing by 50%, no way to justify £3k for a major service on a later model 911. They will lose the servicing bread and butter business to good indies and just sell cheap warranty’s. At the moment you can buy a cheap Porsche warranty from them and take your car to a good indie who service to OEM standards and doesn’t invalidate the warranty. Amazing they haven’t done something about this before especially the claims coming in for 991.2 turbo issues.

The servicing is the reason I got rid of both the Porsches I have had. I always felt like I was being robbed and they just made stuff up. People say you dont have to have the extras done but I dont like the feeling of them trying it on.
The worst thing was when I sold to a non Porsche dealer they asked for the service report so they could bid me down. Unfortunately I had "lost" it.
I dont think I'll ever own anything new enough to have to trouble a dealer again. I'd maybe go for something which I could take to an independent but there are a lot of options.

its likely the same cost overall? also supercar pricing for warranty and service work(Mclaren/ferrari) would always be more than sports car pricing.
remember you get 2 year intervals also on a porsche so the overall cost is much lower than supercar servicing and warranty.
Oh here we go supercar/sportscar definition again. No, the article is about a £3.5k service on a Modern 911. I’ve run many V12 Ferrari and Lamborghini at Main Dealers and very rarely went over £2.5k for an annual service. £3.5k service for a modern 911 is a piss take/ unacceptable, and as the poster said above, put him off and sold.

Not trying to be pedantic and go off thread, but £2.5K for an annual service is that a major/minor? And a Porsche is every 2 years/20,000 miles, so it would still work out much cheaper to have a Porsche over time.

I'm looking for a 911.
My Mclaren major service was £1500(main dealer). What i'm saying is, as thats every year, if you average out the costs with warranty, it can normalise out.
I'm in total agreement, £3.5k for a 911 service is crazy.
Major Annual with Spark Plugs, 12 of them not 6. All other majors were between 1600 to 1900. They shouldn t be charging because it s every 2 years they should be charging for the time and parts needed, and as the OP says £3500 on a modern easy to maintain 911 is a piss take.
My point was the warranty & service costs are back to front. Porsche charging £1k for a bumper to bumper warranty is too cheap, especially for GT3 products, double that warranty cost and come into line on servicing costs, and they will lose less customers.

So you don’t need a Porsche service every two years to continue renewing an OPC warranty?

Sounds like a pleasurable Saturday and about £500.
Or a trip to the dealer and £3500.
I assume there's an independent that would be somewhere in the middle.

No, to Porsche Standards & Intervals. Been like this for many years.. even longer in EU.
Plenty of threads on it and ask Chat GPT..
Yes, you can use Porsche independent specialists without voiding the warranty, but you must ensure they use genuine parts and that their work meets Porsche's standards to avoid a claim being denied. If a problem arises that is proven to be a direct result of a non-compliant repair or incorrect part, Porsche may refuse the warranty claim, although they would have to prove the link.

It's a bit more complex than that, if you want to answer Youforreal's question specifically. You are correct, as detailed in the warranty documents that can be accessed on the Porsche website, you can service the car outside the network as long as....etc. However, if you are extending your warranty on a year by year basis, then you get caught out by the requirement to have your last service at an OPC. This is not specified in the warranty documents online but someone on PH posted in 2024 the response from Porsche Cars GB and that was very clear that the last service had to be done at a Porsche Centre to extend an existing warranty, which would not normally require a 111 pt check. Now does that include a Porsche Partner Network indy, I don't know - it would probably require another specific question to Porsche GB or perhaps a PPN like JZM, Weissach, etc, could answer that one.
I should be picking up a new 911 GTS in December and I'm seriously considering purchasing the 3 year extended warranty for £2,890, either at time of purchase or during the first year. That way there are no restrictions until I go to renew in 2031, if I'm still here!
On the subject of warranty value, the Spyder RS and GT4RS with their GT3 engines are particularly well priced as they fall into the standard Boxster/Cayman price group - £1,870 for three years
notsomadmick said:

I only know about London, where I'm based, but PRG took back East and West London and I think South London?
My 991.2 GTS 8 year service was £2.5K at PRGs in Lonodn but I spoke to Porsche Tonbridge who were cheaper and offered a PCGB discount so it ended up £1.8K, which paid for two new rear tyres.
Edited by FriedMarsBar on Thursday 20th November 16:07
You are absolutely correct. But just seeing your last sentence, 3 yr extended warranty for under £1870 is just bonkers, and I m tripling down on my point that their warranty prices are too cheap and their servicing prices are too expensive, completely the wrong way round. Sign up for that 3 year as well at £2830 for a 911 GTS, amazing price and substantial warranty to boot

Can you actually buy an extended warranty to commence after the existing warranty ceases now, don't you have a 3 year warranty from day one.
Regardless of this, it doesn't affect or change the servicing costs being a completely separate activity.

Yes to both. You have the initial New Car Guarantee for the first 3 years, and you can purchase an additional three year warranty at any time during the NCG period. I think the below from Reading OPC site is slightly outdated as you don't need a 111 pt check to extend, but if you try to renew after two years, you might be caught out by the OPC service requirement.
"You can purchase a Porsche Approved Warranty at any time during your New Car Guarantee and, if purchased during the first year, you do not need to pay for a 111 point check"
Is it not also the case that when purchasing the extended warranty, it's the terms applicable at that time of purchase that are enforceable (what with the recent change last month re corrosion)?
So does this mean that if a car was:
Major serviced at a very good Indie but not at an OPC in January '26 ...
An existing warranty ending in May '26 could not be renewed even if a 111 point check was also paid for ?
The alternative being to talk to a friendly OPC about doing a cheap Minor service early (see it as a spanner check which always includes an oil change) with a warranty extension ??
P.S. Yes it's my view that failures caused by corrosion are no longer included ... even if the cars should have been protected against this and the corrosion cause may be subjective ??
Edited by ChrisW. on Thursday 20th November 17:56
Honestly Chris, I don't know; I have not gone through that exact scenario yet. I'm trying to piece together the information & documents on the Porsche warranty webpage with additional information posted here on PH in the last couple of years. And there are still inconsistencies e.g. the warranty Policy document and the Demands & Needs document presented to an owner by an OPC last year is inconsistent on servicing out of the Porsche network.
It's unfortunate that these inconsistencies exist and that there is no central webpage with ALL the relevant information. Over the years, there are almost as many threads / posts on warranty as there are on GT3 prices on PH, 911UK and PCGB.
I found the old thread I was referring to with the badly written letter from Porsche GB. See post by CK11 on 14-Feb-24
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Thanks ... I also have checked out all the available information and it wasn't clear.
Possibly because post definition Porsche have tried to tweak the terms to maximise income and minimise claim costs ... I accept that some aspects of corrosion should be the responsibility of owners ... I guess it may be enough to post actual scenarios as they arise ...
Call me cynical but I suspect until Porsche's financial problems are resolved more claims will be denied using "not serviced properly" and "non Porsche parts" used as a reason to deny a claim.
I'm not saying it would happen but if you have a Porsche warranty and had it serviced elsewhere and you needed to make a warranty claim it's a very easy get out of jail free card from Porsche.
Freakuk said:

Isn't it just best to suck up the extra cost and have all servicing done by your OPC, I know I wouldn't go anywhere else, simply not worth the possible ball ache.

The AU warranty is a third party insurance product so you’d expect an OPC to be motivated to carry out warranty work - anecdotally doesn’t seem that way oddly.

I've heard that the warranty work isn't profitable for an OPC as the times allowed for each repair are so tight that the OPC tends to lose money.

Doubt that, even the warranty work would follow the book time/TU for the job.

Only what I've heard but admittedly not from the horse's mouth
My MY22 GT3 needed its 2nd service/4th year early because Porsche did the 1st service/2nd year early as I purchased it as an approved used car.
I had prices vary from £3885-£4800 across 4 different OPC`s. They said the service was plugs, belts etc etc and took 10 hours. £450 just to take and put the bumper back on, which I questioned but it includes sorting the camera out after installing back.
Anyway all done now

Clearly they will not get the retail hourly rate but the times will be identical and it will be profitable work not to mention the parts.

Porsche servicing costs are madness, my 4yr old Spyder needs a service and the first quote i've had is over £2,100 and its only done 2,750 miles!
I'll be calling around some other Porsche dealers as others have managed to get the price down to around £1,500 for the same 4yr service.
If you've done less than 3000 miles in 4 years then you need to sit in front of a mirror and have a word with yourself!! Seriously though, you're paying for the 4 year service. Service intervals are 20k miles or 2 years, whichever comes first.

The warranty cost table above, I assume that a Spyder RS, or GT4RS, would come under the Boxster / Cayman category. Which makes a 3 yr warranty at £1800ish superb value. Do I have that right....?
It would appear so and of course it's possible that the service costs are designed to accommodate the extra risk in the more expensive and higher performance models ??

Unrelated, but have you ever owned any Evo’s?

Thats unlikely as Porsche don’t underwrite their own warranty so the revenue streams are separate.

Call me cynical but I suspect until Porsche's financial problems are resolved more claims will be denied using "not serviced properly" and "non Porsche parts" used as a reason to deny a claim.
If Porsche had better balance sheet, why would they become more lenient on warranty claims when owners haven't followed the T&C's?

Oh here we go supercar/sportscar definition again. No, the article is about a £3.5k service on a Modern 911. I ve run many V12 Ferrari and Lamborghini at Main Dealers and very rarely went over £2.5k for an annual service. £3.5k service for a modern 911 is a piss take/ unacceptable, and as the poster said above, put him off and sold.
Was that recently? Asking because I will need to get my Lamborghini serviced in spring/summer (so I can eventually sell it) and I suspect it will be more expensive than that given even Porsche now charges 400 euros per hour. If it was pre-covid, then the figures make sense as at that time Ferrari charged c. 170 Euros an hour (and my services cost somewhere in the high 1xxx to mid 2xxx range) - they always charged a healthy mark-up on their hourly rates vs. Porsche. Service cost is mostly hours cost, I recently paid 1,800 Euros for a new battery as they needed to do work to be able to access the battery (some stupid design fault on the 997 where you can't get to the battery easily when it is completely flat). Even the hourly rate at the local mechanic has doubled over the last few years to mid-100s per hour (that was a double digit figure not that long ago).

What's your suggestion regarding the PDK?
My is due it's 8 year service and I've asked them to do the PDK at the same time.
I think 12 years is a very very long time for any oil, and given its not very difficult or costly id have it done earlier myself. YMMV.
For a high performer like the GT3 it’s a no brainer to do it sooner. Oil is cheap, labour less so, but the gearbox is mega money I’m sure, and the downtime if it fails will be a pain.
I rarely follow specified schedules especially if I drive my cars hard. The oils are the only things protecting it. Sometimes I do Interim changes.
Strange that Belfast and Glasgow both quoted identical jobs with the same price down to the penny, with no spark plugs mentioned. My car is on 2,500 miles and pretty sure it got plugs 2 years ago (but will check).
If it's every 4 years on a 992, perhaps they have adopted the same interval for the 991.2 in retrospect, after all are the engines not practically the same? It's not uncommon for manufacturers to revise intervals on any type of machine.
Edited by Digester Man on Monday 24th November 17:22
Belfast and Glasgow OPCs are both Sytner group, so if you're looking to benchmark the price in the North, you'd need to go to e.g. Perth, Newcastle, Bolton/Preston etc.
Off topic, but an interesting point I think - as a resident of North Ireland, Porsche Leicester (Sytner) would not sell me a new or VAT qualifying Porsche. We were close to making a deal about a year ago, when the salesman called me back "Sorry we can't sell you a car" citing some Porsche GB rules which turned out to be complete b*****x. Obviously an internal Sytner group position, that the England dealerships will not complete with the only Porsche Centre in Northern Ireland. In the end I didn't buy from either.
This thread got me thinking about the cost for my 911.2 2018 GTS , major service
Just been in to Dick Lovett , quote for mine , at 40,000 miles is £1820 inc MOT , and courtesy car .
They confirmed it includes a plug change in this service
Edited by Busa mav on Wednesday 26th November 15:18
Irrespective of the service cost, the extended warranty is the same for all models of the 911 and I guess that there will also be some extra residual value in a car with a full OPC history and an extended warranty, particularly should a car be sold privately or as a commission sale through an auction house or dealer ...
I guess it's the big picture even if the labour rates are almost offensive ...

A good reference point. So a major service on a GT3 costs almost double that of a Carrera!

But remember, twice the oil, twice the plugs, twice the brake fluid etc and twice the labour so about right and here s a pint of idiot nice to swallow that down with too.
A quick question for y'all: why don't you service the car yourself? Is it the warranty, resale, inclination, or opportunity cost?
Has anyone built a spreadsheet noting the annual warranty cost, the bi-annual servicing costs, against fixing the car for the most often reported repairs? For example, if it costs £3k a year for warranty and servicing, and a PADM repair costs £3k, if it happens, is this the type of risk that folk are trying to mitigate against?
It seems to me that Porsche has designed this "insurance model" to make a profit.

To be fair the warranty is actually reasonable and has the extra benefit of being the same cost across each model range, so you could have a base 911 or a GT3RS/ST and it would cost the same.
I had a GT4 which has 2 PADM mounts, both were replaced at different times (under warranty), each one would have cost around £1800 (parts and labour), plus being a GT car you need a geo which is an additional £500, so for the 2 mounts and 2 geo's would have cost me approx £4600, warranty was around £700.
And for reference a 911 had 4 PADM mounts.
I didn’t read all the threads but why not drive 20,000 years every 2 years, do 10 track days. £3k would then be good value. The problem is we never drive our cars so it’s seems a lot.

@maz8062
They shaft you on many more things
Everything and I mean everything has to be Porsche to maintain the warranty
Even the battery - 680 quid or something ridiculous
Tyres - n rated
Porsche have been playing this game for years
20 years ago they were charging some customers - foolish enough to pay - for clearing brake dust deposits from their drilled discs
Everyone used to get charged for a new bottle of Porsche screen wash concentrate too. It was only 7 quid from memory. If you knew the game you left your current bottle on the pass seat to prevent it or stated very very clearly you want the menu service only with no additional extras.
@Freakuk
PADM mounts can ge repaired now
GEO costs me 85 quid

I believe it's just water ingress into the PCB and there's someone who is making an updated version with 3 year warranty, I don't believe Porsche are repairing them though, I could be wrong hopefully.
I had mine done in July 25 at Brooklands Porsche, always try either Guildford or Brooklands. £2967 was the lowest I could them down to asking for a discount based on repeated work buying cars etc etc. At least the service bills are bi-annual and little else comes up.
Buy a Ferrari, every year a big bill and always something else to fix!

agreed, I'm getting my gearbox serviced in Jan, 4 years ahead of schedule, it's relatively inexpensive at circa £550. One thing that did surprise me is that they don't change the sump with the inbuilt filter apparently, it's a fluids only service so pentosin in the GB and new oil in the diff.

My local OPC did me a special price which included a lift home ... the car was pretty dirty when it went in but I didn't expect this when I collected it ...
The cost was a little over £3000 for the 8 year service ... and I gave the car a good wash !!

Oil, Oil filter, pollen filter, air intake pre-filer, spark plugs, brake fluid - every 2 years
Drive belt replacement - 4 years
PDK clutch fluid - 6 years
PDK trans oil / manual trans oil - 12 years, although you'd be mad to leave it so long.
Tyre sealant - as required.
I will be having an intermediate service on my 2014 32,000 mile 991.1 PDK later this year. As far as I know, it's never had the PDK fluids changed, so I am thinking of having it done.
I am not a Porsche expert at all, but are there 3 sets of fluid to change? PDK clutch, PDK trans and PDK manual trans? Sorry for the dumb question, I have no idea!
Is it the drive belt tensioner or the actual belt (or both) that should be replaced?
TDT said:
2 types.
The Hydraulic clutch fluid for actuation (they list PDK clutch)
Then the actual lubricant for gearbox (they list for PDK or Manual)
Got it - many thanks.

By way of update to this thread, just booked my 991.2 gt3 in for the 8 year service which comes in at £2521.45 and this is at Porsche South Lakes.
Dear Everyone,
Thanks to this community, I've ditched my local OPCs - who have no regard for 28 years of customer loyalty.
I just booked my 991.2 GT3 in at Porsche South Lakes - who I can confirm are £1000 less expensive.
(Includes a loan car, and a nice trans Pennine drive!)
Thank you all.
I’ll add my recent experience booking a 8 year major service, so my local OPC quoted £3270 all in.
Through the PCGB GT what’s app group heard that both Portsmouth and Swindon OPC’s offer a 25% discount which seems correct as with discount the same service came to £2200.
Unfortunately these opc’s are a long way from me (4hr drive)
I had also spoken to Hull OPC who quoted £2700 with 10% parts discount for PCBG members but also said if I get a better offer to give them a opportunity to match. So I did, and managed to get it booked for basically £200 more and as Hull is 80 mins from me I took that offer up.
3 phone calls and £1000 cheaper for the exact same service.
I also spoke to Porsche GB about servicing out side of the network and maintaining the warranty and the ability to renewal the warranty.
It appears that as long as the service is to the same standard and genuine part used it’s ok with a caveat that the car has to be serviced by Porsche before renewal.
Therefore if you choose a 3 year warranty you could do major with an Indy and the minor with an OPC and still maintain and renew the warranty.
£3k every two years (£1,500 a year) is pretty much what I was paying annually to have my Morgan serviced.... Without looking it's probably around what my Range Rover cost to service at a main dealer every year (there was usually a significant extra) and maybe cheaper than my Vanquish, I can't remember.
Yes I know there's the Porsche tax thing and it's not cheap - but it feels vaguely comparable to the annual costs of servicing any other special sports car.

That seems unjustifiable to me.
Thoughts welcome please !
FWIW, full price for same on a 2018 991.2 GT3 RS is £3,449 + VAT = £4,139
My previous OPC just quoted me £1080 for the interim service on my 981 Spyder.

I think it's a case of keep ringing around - and bartering.
All OPCs want our custom, and those who play fairest - will get it.
