Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've just changed my shocks with these and kept the original springs and the car is transformed.

Cheers, would it not be wise to change the springs at the same time?

New Shocks?

Replace springs if you want different characteristics, usually better/flatter handling

Suggestion

Only worth changing springs if you want different characteristics, usually better/flatter handling, but this usually comes at the expsense of ride quality.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have had a boxster s from the OPC while mine is having some work, from the difference in handling I think mine is in need of some new shocks or better suspension in general. The difference was really noticable when taking dips at speed. Mine is 5 years old now and has 42K on the clock. So not surprised that the suspension in not as good as it once was. But the question is what to replace it with? Any ideas people? Migration info. Legacy thread was 66676

POST 2Original post

Poo, Bilstein HDs highly recommended. I've just changed my shocks with these and kept the original springs and the car is transformed. Does excatly what it should now - like it did when it was a new car. http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm > suspension > P96 > Bilstein sport. Migration info. Legacy thread was 66689

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers, would it not be wise to change the springs at the same time? Plus any idea about how easy this is to do yourself - or is it an indie job? Migration info. Legacy thread was 66693

POST 4Original post

Only worth changing springs if you want different characteristics, usually better/flatter handling, but this usually comes at the expsense of ride quality. If you think your suspension is just tired, shocks alone will be fine. If you want sharper handling look at springs too. DIY - depends on how confident you are! Did mine myself in approx 6 hours. But I used a susperb write up from rennlist. If you find a similar guide for the 996, and have the tools, it should be fine. Failing that an indie will sort it in nn time for approx £250 - 400. Migration info. Legacy thread was 66699

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers Asim. Might be a job for an indie I think! Not really looking to change the handling (although I liked the look of the adjustable sports suspension! ), just get it feeling like new again. Migration info. Legacy thread was 66702

POST 6Original post

There may be nothing worn or tired with your suspension Chris. The S just seems to be a very different handling car. In some ways I was a little dissapointed myself when I got back into the 911. Though I did start to feel more like a man again once you realise how much more solid and comfortable the 911 feels in comparison. Migration info. Legacy thread was 66704

POST 7Original post

996 suspension might be better in this aspect, but 993 dampers (Monroes) are fooked by this mileage! One of the few 993 weak spots  Migration info. Legacy thread was 66705

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No the ride in mine is way to soft. I don't see why why the boxster would be set up so much stiffer. I might ask the dealer if I can drive a newer 996 to compare. On the track day, I remember getting into Rob's GT3 and think mine was like driving a ship in the wind in comparison. I assumed this was just because the GT3 is a proper track car, I'm thinking now its because mine needs some work! Migration info. Legacy thread was 66708

POST 9Original post

You may be right in this respect. I certainly wouldn't describe the ride in mine as soft. Migration info. Legacy thread was 66710

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think most people describe a cab tip as soft! Migration info. Legacy thread was 66711

POST 13Original post

Leda suspension are well recommended. They do a 'lick off' fully adjustable in cab electronic suspension kit not sure how many £££££s tho Ps i would change the springs anyway what ever you decide only a set of 4 new boots can compare to a new set of shox and springs all round..springs do become tired with age ...rob Migration info. Legacy thread was 66783

POST 14Original post

In my experience Leda are a bit too track focussed, although my experience is comfined to their coilovers. How do springs wear out then? Migration info. Legacy thread was 66785
