Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

In a comparo of the Cayman 2.7 and a '73 RS, the weighed the Cayman and found that their "stripper" test car, with just 1/2 tank of fuel, weighed over 3100 lbs, far in excess of the factory figure of 2845lbs (though - admittedly - not really too bad in this era of 4000lb plus "sports"cars).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've posted a similar query at the Boxter/Cayman page, and I'll ask it here, too. My curiousity was piqued by a comment in the most recent issue of Excellence magazine. I've suspected for a long time (since the '80's) that Porsche's official weights for its street cars were a bit, ah, "conservative". I realize that precise weights will vary from car to car and depend on variable like options and equipment, fuel on board, driver on board, etc. I'd been heartened in recent years by the fact that Porsche's new generation of cars had seemed to be avoiding the weight gains that have afflicted so may other "performance" cars in the last decade or so. Weight is, after all, the enemy of performance. Consequently, I'd be curious to know if any 997 owners have weighed their cars. If so, please disclose what you learned, as well as the configuration the car was in when measured (fuel quantity and driver aboard, equipment, etc.). Expiring minds want to know (for no particular reason!). Thanks to all who reply!

Well, I don't own a 997, but I do own a 2000 996 coupe. I had it weighed with a full tank of fuel and it weighed 3140 pounds. My tank holds about 105 pounds of fuel so the car should weigh about 3035 pounds empty. The owners manual for my car listed 2920 as a stock weight without options.
