Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

2008 Porsche Boxster RS60; over the past several months, I've noticed that my Boxster 's exhaust has developed an annoying rattle, so when I recently had the car in the air to swap to my summer tire set, I figured I'd try to find the source of this rattle. The rattle primarily occurs when the exhaust is cold, when I have the exhaust set to normal 'quiet' mode, and/or when accelerating thru the 2500-3500 RPM portion of the rev range. I've done a search but haven't been able to find a post in which someone else has experienced the same thing. This post describes a rattle that has some, but not all of the rattle symptoms I'm experiencing: PSE Rattle? At any rate, after lifting the car I started the engine, left the PSE in it's quiet mode, and quickly crawled under the back of the car to try and find the rattle source before the exhaust got too hot to touch. Given that the car was cold, and that I left it in quiet mode, the rattle was fairly loud so I quickly found the origin, the passenger side bypass valve that opens up when the exhaust is in sport or 'loud' mode. To my surprise, putting pressure on the bottom of the valve stem assembly with my fingers completely silenced the rattle, only for it to start again when I removed the pressure. Reference the photos below to see exactly what I'm talking about. My question to any and all who might know: What all on the exhaust would I need to repair or replace to silence the rattle? Obviously, an entirely new cat-back system, either a OE Porsche or aftermarket, would solve it, but I'd prefer a more affordable and less invasive solution. IIRC, one can buy the OE PSE right or left side muffler + bypass valve assemblies individually, so I was wondering how difficult it would be to swap one of these out in my garage. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas here? Edit: The third photo here is just me pointing at the rattle source with my finger. I'm not sure why it was flagged as 18+ content; maybe some machine learning algorithm thinks my pasty white hand looks like a different body part? 🤔 Sensitive content, not recommended for those under 18 Show Content Sensitive content, not recommended for those under 18 Show Content

Did you ever get it sorted? Same situation on passenger side of my RS60 and I've wondered if it's due to weak vacuum closing the flap more slowly (when fiddling around, I noticed that the rattle is more intense when the flap/valve travels its course more slowly).
