Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am thinking about buying one with 50K miles on it and intend to drive it till 200K+ miles. Do they last that long or do they require a lot of maintainence? I currently drive a 2000 BMW 3 series coupe with 175K miles and it has been very reliable even after 20+ autox events. It still runs like new. Can I expect same kind of reliability or am i dreaming?

They are pretty reliable. You an expect to replace the normal "consumable parts" (clutch, waterpump, etc) but otherwise they are a reliable car. AFJ

POST 3Original post

I can't say for sure but what I can say is that when I bought my car at 40K miles it was nearly flawless - like a new car, really. And it was six years old. I've now put on almost another 10,000 miles and have flogged it hard twice on the big track at Willow Springs raceway here in SoCal and it's still nearly flawless. Also, one of Porsche's hallmarks has always been reliability and build quality, so I see no reason why, if the car has been well maintained, that it can't be as reliable as your BMW.

POST 4Original post

My '99 has just under 49K on it...no RMS ever, no issues other than consumables (brakes, oil changes, etc.). I'm even still on the original clutch. Tires are another story... It's my daily driver....sun, rain, snow/salt....

POST 5Original post

I bought mine November 2006. I bought mine with 56k miles. I flew into Littlerock, paid the seller and hopped on the freeway heading towards Chicago. The drive was awesome, and it was a 10 hour cruise. I got one speeding ticket in Illinois. I had it up to 125 mph at one point, I could have gone faster but I was scared. I was beating on it all the way home, trying to do fish tails out of gas stations (not so good, you get sling shot forward...it grips the road). I wanted whatever was going to break or malfunction to happen right there. I wanted to get it out of the way because I do not want anything to happen this summer. I think they are reliable because I made it home fine and everyone loves the car!
