Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wondering if anybody on here as bought one and what they think of it? D

POST 2Original post

Good question...I'd like to ask the same. Also is it a limited edition car like the Sportclassic?Or one of those they'll make as many as they can sell?

POST 6Original post

Yes I bought one... Have done about 2k miles in a couple of months. Is a great GT, more civilised than my 997 c2s that I had from 05-12. I did drive a 991 c2s at the silverstone porsche centre, pretty amazing, so much grip and fantastic handling. Not tracked the 50th anniversary yet, not sure I'm brave enough, maybe need a friendly pcgb track day. The build quality is fantastic, better than 997 which had a few creaks here and there. I'll post some pics when I get round to it.

POST 7Original post

We bought one last year. Not really had chance to drive it much but love the look of it. Massively moves the game on from our 996. Swapping the steering wheel over to the paddle one this weekend. Few crappy photos

POST 8Original post

They have/had one in Porsche Leicester I thought it looked lovely for what it's worth!

POST 9Original post

Silverstone have one in their showroom at the moment and I think it looks pretty good overall, especially the houndstooth seats. I'm not convinced about the badges on the headrests though, I think they look a bit naff.

POST 10Original post

I saw a light grey one this morning near Macclesfield. They do look great, although the wheels look massive!

POST 11Original post

Can you order those wheels on other 991's? If not are they available from the parts dept??

POST 12Original post

love the dog tooth interior. Should have had the child seats trimmed to match!

POST 18Original post

Coincidentally the postman delivered some Techart paddles this afternoon. Basically you keep the MF steering wheel but swap out the stupid buttons for paddles. There a a couple of wires to swap along the way, but you keep all the MF functions. Took me just over 2 hours to do at home, plus some prior internet browsing. The result is hey presto. Paddle shift just like any other system - pull left to change down and pull right to change up. Those buttons were driving me crazy - logic all wrong and hard to find when cracking on.

POST 20Original post

How do they compare (in terms of feel), to the Sports Design wheels paddles? I was really tempted to buy these (from TechArt), but was put off by OPC warnings of doom. Plus, I'm not sure how hard they are to self fit (rewire)? Its a long way to Liverpool from Swindon.....

POST 21Original post

I've not tried the Porsche paddles so I can't compare them. I can only compare them to cars with paddles I've owned previously or still own which includes BMW SMG, Jaguar, Maserati, ferrari, etc. The TechArt paddles feel great - as if they are OEM, I'm really pleased with them so far. It means that when I feel like having a Manual mode moment, I can and it feels very natural, just like other paddle systems. I can't say for sure how reliable they will turn out to be, but they use the original Porsche "switching" components, effectively removing the "Push" buttons and blanking them off and retaining the "pull" system, but with paddles instead of buttons. The rewire on the right hand side switches two wires on a connector to make the right hand paddle change up when pulled instead of down on the original Porsche set up. Its a matter of pulling the wires out of a connector and swapping them over. Worse case I can always reverse the install and go back to the original set up, although I cant see why I would do that. Overall I found it reasonably straight forward although I have an engineering background. You have to disconnect the battery, remove the steering wheel & airbag, then strip down the wheel into its components, swap the parts and rebuild. 2 "special" tools that I had anyway - a 12mm, 12 point star bit and a couple of allen keys. The instructions assume you have already removed the wheel "in accordance with the Porsche maintenance manual", but there is a video on youtube that shows how to do that. I would think a Porsche independent specialist would be the best bet unless you have the experience to do it yourself. I was particularly nervous about handling the airbag. Edited to say the paddles are plastic, like most mainstream OEM paddles are and painted silver although you can special order black etc. It doesn't exactly match the aluminium finish of the dashboard, but it's not too obvious.
