Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I was SURE my rattle was a heat shield, but ultimately it turned out to be loose baffles inside one of my gone-but-not-forgotten TubiStyle mufflers.
Leading evidence: 'loose baffles inside one of my gone-but-not-forgotten tubistyle mufflers' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). I'm replacing the shift cable and will report back.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and release bearing were all changed about 10k miles ago. Transmission fluid about 20k miles ago.
When I release the cluch about 1/4 of the way (going over a speed bump or reversing) I hear a rattle. The rattle does not happen when clutch is fully/mostly engaged or disengaged. It has a sweet spot that the rattle occurs. Volume of rattle changes with pedal travel as well.
I've never had this issue with any previous vehicles. Was something installed incorrectly? I'm putting the car on a lift tomorrow. Anything I should look out for? Trans. mount?
Since the clutch was so long ago - 10K miles - I'm inclined to agree that it's probably something else that's vibrating in the conditions you listed.

Your best friend is a rubber mallet - apply judiciously until you find the source of the rattle.
The only thing I think it could be is the gear selecter lever. There were two ,I'm assuming the second one is for reverse which had no play. The "main" selector lever had a bit of axial play on the shaft. At the right frequency, it would probably vibrate. Just dont know if it has enough play to make the noise that I'm hearing. Any thoughts?
Will look at ordering replacement parts none the less.
I just realized, if I switch between gears (with the engine off so I can hear) it makes the exact same sound. At least I've arrowed it down to the shift/gear mechanism. Hopefully I won't have to drop the tranny...

thread
. It sounds like the rattle is normal for lugging the motor?
The only time I hear the rattle it very low revs, most of the time while going over speed bumps. Adjusting my driving style can eliminate the noise. Anymore thoughts?....
the motor should never be "lugged"
in the 4 996's i've owned i've never heard any sort of noise at any rpm - no rattles, no noise shifting/not shifting/etc
so sumthin sounds fishy
