Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Retrofitting a Porsche kit retrospectively will set you back over £5k and is still not 'original'.

I've been thinking about a 911 recently and quite like the Aero kit, now i appreciate this seems to be a very marmite option and im not looking for opinions on that. What is really confusing me is the asking prices of cars that have this option seem to be MASSIVELY more than basically the same car without the aero kit, in some cases ive seen asking prices upto 10K more on a 30-40k car. Can anyone shed any light on why theres such a hugh difference, or is it the dealers taking the P.... Steve

As a side note, Design911 sell an aerokit for the 997 so if you find a good standard 997, maybe you could put the kit on and save some money?

Steve I am not sure that the aero kit makes a great deal of difference to the value of a given car. No more than colour and spec would anyway. What I would say is that at the budget you are talking about, make sure you get a Gen 2 with the DFI engine!

I appreciate that they are quite rare but the way i see it (happy to be informed otherwise) is that when your ordering a car that was circa 80K if you wanted the aero kit option at about 3K (is that about what it was?) then you tick the box. As so few have ticked that box i can only assume that not many people want it?

The 997 is a lovely shape on its own, I dont think it needs the extra aerokit. The GT3 looks good wearing it because you know the intent behind it. I still maintain that when it comes to the 911 silhouette, the best is the 993 and the 997 is a close second!

Through the rear wheel arch up into the engine bay I had to shooo them out 3 times - they kept finding their way back to what I guess was relative safety for black bird chicks. Look how angry the left one looks at me! Perhaps I should have started the engine.. couldn't bring myself to do it though

The aerokit may be marmite, but that's the point. Most porsche buyers seek originality, and not many tick the option. There are plenty of people who love the more aggressive look, but didn't want to live with the harshness of a GT3 (despite what the GT 3 zealots tell you on here). Retrofitting a Porsche kit retrospectively will set you back over £5k and is still not 'original'. Hence the price uplift. Doesn't matter whether you agree, it's just market economics.

POST 25Original post

If you do go down the road of retro fit don't buy aftermarket. Fit of the wing is terrible and needs major reworking to get the shut lines right (bitter experience and I'm very competent in body working) plus you will still need to buy the loom, fan, correct vents and have the spoiler lift error circuit deactivated via diagnostic machine at dealers. Forget the aftermarket front p.u's as they are made of fibreglas and never fit right. I used an OEM aero front p.u and fitted a GT3 smile. Did fit an aftermarket rear p.u. though as I wanted the Misha style one (GT3 style but with twin exits). Many, many hours later and I think mine look fantastic but scarily expensive if you have to pay someone else to do the hard work. I outsourced the painting as I wanted a top quality finish and that alone was over a thousand pounds. Hopefully you can see now why they fetch premium over non aero kitted cars.
