2009 CS with 158,000 miles on the clock.
I'm already planning to do a suspension refresh this year, but I realized recently that the boots on my CV shafts are starting to crack. One is already split down by the shaft.
Do you recommend just pulling the shafts and doing new boots and grease, or should I replace the entire shaft?
While I'm in there, and I've already pulled the shaft, my assumption is I should do the wheel bearings also, even though they seem to be OK.
I've been planning my suspension refresh and the cost keeps going higher and higher. Then again, I can probably get another 150k on an refreshed suspension if I do it right.
Do the best work you are capable of on a car you’re going to keep. I always look at it this way: my labor would be a fortune because I’m meticulous. Given your stated goal for mileage and the current vehicle mileage? I would replace the wheel bearings and the entire shaft assembly, now it’s fresh and you align it once. Just my two cents, good luck with the rebuild regardless of how deep you go or the approach.
Porsche
axle shafts for these cars are pretty expensive and although I try not to China bash (they do make some things well) when I was shopping for a replacement right rear axle I read enough bad reviews to go another route. I sent my axle out to CVJ Axles in Colorado. Cost with shipping was about $550 and turnaround time was excellent.
Thanks for this! The OEM are stupid expensive, and going with whatever Chinese option RockAuto is offering wasn't making me comfortable. This sounds like a great idea. I'll ping CVJ Axles and find out what they can do for me.
I recently replaced the boots on my

. I. Was concerned about wear but after cleaning everything up there was zero perceptible wear on any of the friction surfaces. I’d tear them apart for a look and then decide.
How did you remove/install the boots? Did you get one of these?
