Suggestion
the alarm will be triggered as soon as you disconnect the battery if the ignition is not switched on .then the only way to stop it is when you have fitted the new battery start the car up and rev it up to 2500 rpm for about 25-30 seconds take the key out of the ignition and lock and unlock the car using the remote ,if it the siren is still going off repeat the above .

Suggestion
better to leave the ignition on when changing the battery!!
Dont change the battery with a hang over or migraine, if you dont leave the key in the ignition, when the alarm goes off you feel like your brain is pulsing /throbbing inside your skull

I know there have been plenty of recent posts to do with failing batteries but can someone explain why it seems that it is recommended to change a failing battery with the ignition switched on?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Browsed this site for ages and found it very useful. I know there have been plenty of recent posts to do with failing batteries but can someone explain why it seems that it is recommended to change a failing battery with the ignition switched on?
Sorry if I've missed an explanation in another post.

I think Phil should start a new category, "Sid's Advice" so we can keep all this invaluable information in one easy to find place.

Of course thats all very well if you have one of those new fangled 996 watsits.
On my 993 I simply use the special little key in the special little keyhole in the engine compartment (at the back) and turn off the alarm horn. Job done.
