Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got back from Rennsport and of course in every conversation..."What do you drive?" And, while I love the car I drive and will never sell it, my answer was "
BMW
128i sport".
As we are leaving on the last day were on the way to the parking lot and stopped for one last time by the bridge to watch the electric
porsche
flying around the track...and was chatting to a gentlemen there who basically said...."You aren't getting any younger and good ones aren't getting any cheaper....go home and get a car...."
When I got back to Virginia I had a rough idea of what I wanted and made a short list and commenced the search...
I wanted a 2005 early
M96
Base
boxster
(replaceable
IMS
) or a 2009 base
Cayman
/
Boxster
. I was ok with miles and didn't want to spend a fortune. Keep it under 25k and shoot for sub 20K.
Soon I had a nice candidate and I had a PPI lined up the
next
day on a very clean 2005 with an LNS
IMS bearing
that I had down to 11500! (It needed struts,
tires
and a top to be 100%)....when another ad popped up and I said to my wife...."If this
boxster
fails the PPI I'm going to look at this!" And showed her the 2009
Cayman
base manual that I had seen before but was just reduced in price....
Wise woman said "You go look at that now..." The guy lived 15 minutes from me and wasn't busy.
When the garage door went up and I saw her I knew I was spending more money for a much better car with recent
Pilot sport
4s,
brembo rotors
, redline pads,
AOS
, recent full service, PCA club owner and basically unmodified except for window tint, a killer professionally installed
sony
headunit and rockford fosgate punch amp and sub!
Super low spec....S 18" wheels, heated seats, auto climate control
So she's mine now!!! I am so excited!!
Congrats! I'm right up the road in Fredericksburg. Be sure to join PCA. The First Settler's Region (FSR) and Shenandoah chapters are both very active down your way. - Shawn
I have been a member for a few years...I technically own a 944 somewhere to qualify.. The car is long dead and gone...but I did get a title.
I am in the Shenandoah group!
I was excited to find it so simple and unadorned...Especially since I am goring to keep it forever!
I did just find out it has
Numeric cables
in it...NICE! I don't get it until Sunday but will be popping that shift boot right away....could it have a
Numeric shifter
? It certainly shifted with a bolt action unlike the
boxster
I drove.....
Congrats! You'll love it. Were you able to come in below your $25K price target?
Great to see a strong VA contingent here - I'm in Fairfax with an '09 base
Cayman
manual (black & sand beige). I hope to have it running forever as well.
I had a similar purchasing moment when I was considering another (cheaper) option but my wife told me to just go for it and I was smart enough not to second-guess her. Good to see you made the same wise choice.
Fantastic buy! I’ve got an ‘11 Basalt/Sand Beige 2.9 in Charlotte. Was just up in CVille (go Hoos - lol). We’ve got great mountain drives here, but go enjoy that 987 around beautiful central VA. Congrats and welcome.
Even with the OEM shifter, there are two options. There's the standard one and the "sport" one. The sport one is something you can install yourself if you have a few hours to spare. But sounds like you are very happy with what you have, so leaving well enough alone is a good option.
Congrats on the
Cayman
. I'm in Harrisonburg, and a member of Shenandoah Chapter. I just sold a
981 Cayman
and my M4 and replaced both with a
Spyder
. Also have a 944 and
Cayenne
. Let me know where you are, would love to get together for a drive.
Any of you going on the Shennandoah PCA drive that ends at the German Restaurant? I'm signed up for that event.
Also love to go for a drive out side of that event. I used to live in Scottsville and there are some great roads I'd like to revisit.....
I hope it’s this one! I just signed up.

You've been busy.
What did you use for the rock chip repair? My hood has a bunch and I'm not sure if I should do Dr.Colorchip or take it somewhere for a real paint correction.
I bought a paint pen off
amazon
.

Cleaned out the chips and layered in OEM touch up paint until slightly proud of the OEM paint.
Leveled it with a small disc of 1000 grit sandpaper (like a hole punch size) rubber cemented to the eraser of a pencil spinning it.
Then wet sanded with extremely fine paper to blend. Compounded and polished. Then clay barred, cut and polished the whole car.
I am learning so it isn't perfect but it got out about 90% of the old car wash swirls. Using Milwaukee Polisher and chemical brothers products.
You can see the difference between the hood and the bumper cover.
Here is what I did to clear the
Koni
adjusters in the rear.
First I put the covers on and drove around figuring they would mark exactly where the holes needed to be placed.
Then I pulled the covers and drilled a pilot from the bottom where the contact marks were.
Then from the top used a 1” hole saw to finish the hole. Deburred it and reinstalled.
Then I made a tool to reach the adjusters. Milled a slot in a cheap screw driver and bent it for clearance.
