Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It all sounds like a fuse so I have checked every one of the four or so that mention instrument clusters in the guide and they are all OK.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, the dashboard backlights for main instrument cluster, together with the warning bong when the lights are on and a door is open have failed. Also, the auto dimming on the PCM is no longer working. It all sounds like a fuse so I have checked every one of the four or so that mention instrument clusters in the guide and they are all OK. The car is only 2 years old (996 cabrio 2), so it is very unporsche like for something to fail. (thinking light switch although this works fine as far as external lighting). Has anybody else had similar problems or any other ideas as what the problem might be as it's driving me nuts! Thanks, Pj. Migration info. Legacy thread was 63608

POST 2Original post

I had an issue with switches failing on my 996 from time to time. Ended up being the connecting plugs coming undone behind the panel - check it out. Not sure how to get to the cluster bit though. Migration info. Legacy thread was 63621

POST 3Original post

sounds like the instrument cluster has failed book it in at a opc asap Migration info. Legacy thread was 63700

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I wonder if the so far useless main dealer warrenty will not cover this as well! Does anybody know what you have to say to actually find something it covers!? Migration info. Legacy thread was 63923

POST 5Original post

You should find the wtty, covers this item provided it is the unit at fault. It doesnt cover Pcm, however most electical control units are covered, provided they are not broken because of external problems, eg window motor broken, burnt out because window was obstructed etc Migration info.
