2008 987.1 S (Dang, I love this car!) Replaced the air filter last weekend and noticed rubbing on two hoses which run across the top of the engine. I suppose they rub against the engine cover. Both now have a flat spot on top, rubbed down at least 1/8" (outlined in yellow on pic). What is their purpose, and should I replace asap? Thank you!

Those aren't hoses, they are your shifter cables and the rubber is just a black foam insulation to keep vibrations from following them into the cockpit. Don't worry about it if they get slightly compressed.

Here's my VERY dirty engine bay on a car I bought used and the first look at the engine where you can see the "rubbing" spots. Totally normal as it is just a rubber covering for the shift cables to prevent them from making noise when they hit the bottom of the engine cover.
