Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Totally agree that new targa isn't pretty plus I'm sure that style targa roof has been seen before from an Independant maker. I seem to remember JZM had a 997 for sale with one on.
I know this has the convenience of folding away under the bodywork but the styling is the same

RUF did it on their Greenster electric powered one on show at Geneva 2 or. 3 years ago. Mr Ruf styled it on his rare very early soft-windowed targa, same colour green, retro seat colours/fabrics. I think it was just a showpiece though, but I guess if you wanted one they'd build it for you.

Apologies for confusing people by posting in the wrong section and not being clear that I meant the best looking 911 you can buy new today...
Oh right. Have you deleted your post?
Anyways, its the GT3. By some margin.

Referring to the 991 Targa the OP posted.
Ah, that makes sence now.
Some form of 993 for me. It is has been a bit too big since then.
Molly, you have lost the plot - the 991 GT3 is many things (most of them brilliant), but it is not a good-looking car. It is hideous. It also fails the "Could you drive to any party and not look like a nobhead as you park?" test. It looks like something a 20-year-old chav would do to a 911.

Blimey, don't hold back .... Seriously, tell us how you really feel. I'm thinking, maybe your not to keen on the new GT3?
I can tell, because I have an inner sense for these things.

ORD, the OP orginally asked the question about ther current 991, so I stand by the GT3. Lets face it, they are all massive! The wheels especially are stunning.
However, the best looking 911 overall is a totally different question and the 991 doesn't get near!

Blimey. Tell us straight. I agree with you on the 993 but I also think the 991 is a good looking car too. Each to their own.
Fully agree with your comments chap

Fair point. I probably went a bit over the top. I couldn't possibly choose between the current 911s. All pretty bad. If pushed, I might just go for the most boggo on the basis that it is huge but at least not chavvy.
Responses made me laugh. I got a bit excited.
For me the early LWB 911 cars are the most beautiful because the shape is pure and original.
Short wheelbase cars had the same body shape with the rear wheels 2" forward which suits the 4 cylinder 912, but was not dynamically correct for the 911.
This design is as it was intended and the root of all subsequent 911 design.

That's beautiful.
Its quite possibly my lottery car.
If I won the Euromillions, I would buy one of these, and Jim Clarke's Mk1 Lotus Cortina on the way home!

Agree, except I would have Roger Clarks RS1800!
The 'best looking' 911 is a difficult one to answer because there are so many out there from classics to hot rods. To be fair I love all of them but for ME.....if I won the Euromillions lottery.... I would be asking Singer to make me something very similar to this...
THIS is the best looking 911 to me..

Agree, see mine below
After this the impact bumpers ruin it until the 964 which is slightly let down by its bulky bumpers..996 a horror story but 997 spot on again.

I love the look of your car, but ...... I feel she needs decals of some kind, maybe side strips? Possibly its just the angle. Beautiful 911 though.

You're right - I'm thinking through what to go for - old style Porsche font. I'm considering white/pale grey or orange. It's Gulf blue so it's hard to resist a few Gulf logos for my annual Le Mans trip.
This!

'Best' and 'Best Looking' 911 should really be considered separately. Personally I don't consider any of the winged cars or those with other bolted on bits of bodywork to be particularly good looking eg. 993 GT2 with its, quite frankly, ugly wheel arch extensions. They may look purposeful or racey, but not best looking in my eyes.
Of the new cars, I think the 991 is certainly good looking and the 50th aniv. model is probably the best looking of the 991 bunch. However, I'm not totally smitten with the 991 high rear end Astonesque look and I would actually say that the 997 Gen 2 was a better looking car overall, particularly the rear end view of the wide bodied models. I currently own a 997.2 C4S and I do think it looks fantastic from all angles. But I think the Sport Classic version was the best looking 997 of all, even with the slightly cliched ducktail. The 997 GTS is very very nice looking too.
The early 70's 911s look lovely of course, but perhaps for my taste starting to look a bit too vintage 40 years on. The 80's impact bumper cars still look pretty good today and there's no doubt that the 930 still has awesome road presence. Back in the day I thought the 964 was a step forward in looks, but now it just looks like a heavy 80's bodykit - sorry! I also thought the 993 was great looking when new, but it really doesn't do that much for me today. It's kind of in no-man's land between classic and contemporary. It's a good looking car, but I prefer the looks of both the older classics and the water cooled cars. That just leaves the 996, which I think is unfairly slagged off just because it doesn't have round headlights. I think it's actually a very good looking car, particularly in facelift C4S form, which is still one of the best looking modern 911s in my eyes.

I put 20,000 miles on my 996 GT2, had several moments in it but to me it represented exactly what I always thought a 911 should be, crazy fast, a bit unpredictable and scary to drive and has understated but significant road presence unlike brash red Italian cars
As for the best looking 911 I'd say the gen 2 997 GT3 RS, love the 2.7RS etc but the gen 2 RS can't be improved IMO.

As for best looking 911. For me it's the 993 Turbo
I share your taste in Porsches.

nah the 996 and 997 GT2s miles better looking than a gen 2 RS. You're lucky fellows!
