Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You asked...so no, they look tacky, boy racer. Actually, it's on of a few reasons I can't stomach the
Cayman S
. They ruin the look of the car except for maybe on White or Silver where they sorta look OK. There is a reason by the
GTS
offers a $990 option to have them painted in black. good luck.
I disliked the rather drab look of the calipers on the base
987.2
, so I spruced mine up a bit as well. That said, I'm in the "nay" camp for red calipers on anything but an "S" model.
Kudos for what you're doing with your channel, BTW. I'm a follower.
That looks really nice, and appropriate in the coolest way.
And I don't need red paint to convince me my Base calipers are
Brembos
, since it is literally cast into them.
Not to mention that they are fantastic brakes.
Only
Porsche
would call something like a Base
Porsche
"Base". It's hilarious when you think about it.

TBH, 99% of folks outside of the P-car community wouldn't know that only S's came with red painted calipers. And I've always liked painted calipers on a sports car - I painted my calipers blue on my Sunlight Silver RX-8 way back in the day. And I have the red calipers on my
Boxster
. . . but it's an S!
Exactly!
But it's because of those VERY 1%'ers, and for sure my fellow P-comrades, that I can't paint them red Cuz they KNOW. I'm a "Base" man and they all know it. And I love it.
Now, I could paint them ANY other color. Or I could upgrade to S brakes and go red.
These are all self imposed boundaries. They don't mean anything except my own personal P-car warped mind.

Most people in here probably know this, but the yellow painted calipers typically come only on Porsches that have the
Brembo brake
upgrade, which is ridiculously expensive, like $9k or so just for brakes. So I think that would be a bit silly to try to pull that look off without the real deal.
But the red is only a minor infraction ;-)
I didn’t even realize the base brakes are also made by
Brembo
. It’s right there in the caliper, in metal raised lettering.

You'll get no real smack from me, although I might taunt or tease for fun.
I put the biggest calipers I ever have seen on my F150. And
Brembo
charges more for those than
Porsche
does for
PCCB
. I didn't get a color choice, and so red they are. And although I can't prove that I did it for BRAKING reasons rather than show, I can assure you that the truck could come to a hault with the RV in tow like nobody's business.
When I upgraded my departed
2007 Cayman
with the larger "S" brakes, I actually painted the calipers black so that they would look factory stock. I prefer the subtler look of the factory black calipers and instrument panel gauge faces on the
Cayman
.
Also,
Porsche
never used the term "base". It's properly called
Cayman
,
Cayman S
,
Cayman
R, etc. And, the original 2016
GT4
was called just that, not
Cayman
GT4
. Just thought I'd point that out for the record...

I realize I'm awakening an old thread - but some items:
1 - You can't cover too much when painting. I'm willing to bet that the car after the calipers were painted really needed a clay job to get the paint dust off it. BTDT. I cover most of the car with an old car cover and just tape it up out of the way in the area I'm painting.
2 - There is a fine line between too much paint and not enough paint per coat. I think the OP found he was on either side of that line at times. I would have gone a bit heavier per coat, but I do have to agree - it's a tough thing to find out. Pro painters use a long sweeping motion of light coats - multiple times over the same area. The time doing the sweep gives the last coat time to slightly set so it won't drool when the
next
coat comes along. This is just a practice sort of thing.
3 - The
Porsche
decals - if they're like all the ones I've used - they are used on top of the last color coat, and pressed on really firmly then the plastic backing is pulled off leaving just the letters attached to the caliper. The clear coats are then applied and that protects the decal lettering from damage from washing and such. The first time those calipers are hit with a high-pressure spray at a car-wash (DIY type) - the decals are likely to come off. Separating the letter/backing is also something that would be good to practice before doing the finished product.
4 - Red vs black - the calipers are the same size/dimensions. The front
rotor
is very slightly thicker on the cars with S brakes. Aftermarket rotors are all pretty much the same thickness (at least if they have the same PN..)
Red vs Black? I guess mine are going to be red. Since I've already destroyed it's purity by doing some "design edition" mods to it (body-color painted console, painted interior trim, came with painted roll-hoops, sport-paddle
PDK steering wheel
, dual-tips on the
exhaust
) I expect it will just leave people wondering exactly what it is. I don't really care - I like it - and everything I've done to it (
next
up is the
Suncoast
Porsche
/Euromotorspeed storage bin speaker kit...) is for my enjoyment not someone elses.
Old thread but painting my base brakes yellow. It’s my favorite color and will look great against agate gray and silver or black wheels. The stock calipers just look dirty. I am no purist and have no S envy. I am clearly in the base camp for a street driven car. Plus I have painted my subie calipers multiple colors and have gotten many compliments over the years, even for single piston stock brakes. Looking at grey dirty brakes just sucks.
I’m sure the black will really make the yellow pop. I just have the plain boring red calipers on my grey Cayman s. I got a hell of a deal on a used set of calipers and am thinking about doing them in a bright green.

I say do it. The nice thing is if you don’t love it you can just paint them black. Not much downside except effort. Maybe more paint can effect heat but I doubt it would have any effect for street driving.
I probably will do it in the
next
few weeks. I already tore them down to rebuild them while I’m at it. I already prepped them to be powder coated. Just waiting on the powder coat to come in. I will post some pictures when I have them finished.
