Suspected cause

If the scrubbing on the front edges is due to needing an alignment, I would get it aligned which would be a fraction of the cost of new tires.

Suggestion

I took some pictures this morning and did the “penny test” and measured with my calipers- I have 7mm of tread depth remaining now, but are there any issues with the rough edges?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I recently did an autox “class” that involved a skidpad, a mini course, threshold braking, and a slalom. Needless to say, I scrubbed some miles off my front tires. I went cruising on backroads yesterday and though the braking was a little reduced so I took a look at the tires and noticed the outer edges on the fronts seem to have taken a beating. I’m wondering if I should replace them. Maybe I’m just not used to how a soft compound sporty tire looks after some hard driving. Could be that I’m being paranoid about the braking. I took some pictures this morning and did the “penny test” and measured with my calipers- I have 7mm of tread depth remaining now, but are there any issues with the rough edges? I also included a picture of the rear tires, which look pretty good to me. Front Tires Rear Tire

POST 2Original post

Age ? With performance cars sooner is better than later. Because of helping family and health issues, my fresh set might go to the dump with lots of tread on them, I consider it the cost of doing business and being safe.

POST 3Original post

The tires actually don’t look too bad. The tread depth itself doesn’t appear like they are in need of replacement, it just seems like the outer edges of the fronts are ‘scrubbed’ possibly from the hard driving you put them through. The rears don’t show that, but probably because the fronts took the brunt from their steering duties. If the scrubbing on the front edges is due to needing an alignment, I would get it aligned which would be a fraction of the cost of new tires. If it turns out that it was out of alignment, that would be proof that the tire wear was a result of the alignment, and give peace of mind that was the cause.

POST 4Original post

Fronts get worn like that from hard cornering as demonstrated by my Mrs. I usually get 12k miles from my summer tires

POST 5Original post

They were manufactured in early 2022 so a little over 4 years at this point.

POST 6Original post

Nothing to worry about, although the wear is a bit rough, so I’d do an alignment.

POST 7Original post

perfectly normal. Road going tires generally have softer sidewalls. what is the brand and model of your tires? They look all seasons to me.

POST 8Original post

Unless they are 6 years old I wouldn't replace them. What brand and Type are they?

POST 9Original post

They are all seasons- Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+

POST 11Original post

its normal to have A/S tires wear on the outside after an driver's ed event.
