I had my fuel rails replaced in March, I bought a great condition set of fuel rails from the USA only to discover that >2000 3.4 have fuel rails that are slightly different to earlier versions to allow for a change in injectors.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Noticed a smell of fuel coing from back of the car when I got it a couple of weeks ago. Took it to a mechanic friend to checki it out and has diagnosed it as the fuel rail on O/S of the engine. Can see the end of the rail looks wet. Are the injector rails (and part numbers) for the 3.4 the same as the 3.6? My car is a 2001 996.1 with the 3.4 engine if that helps/ thanks

POST 2Original post

check with the mechanic the specific part it's highly likely the part is the same but needs to be verified by the part number

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Unfortunately not an option to get back on the ramp. I suspect that inorder to get the part no. it has to be removed

POST 4Original post

3.6 & 3.4 fuel rails are different. I had my fuel rails replaced in March, I bought a great condition set of fuel rails from the USA only to discover that >2000 3.4 have fuel rails that are slightly different to earlier versions to allow for a change in injectors. I ended up paying OPC £1060 for 2 metal tubes connected by 2 hoses! Engine & gearbox out to fit + several ‘whilst you’re in there’ items resulted in a near £4k bill. At least the car didn’t burst into flames as the leak is near the exhaust. If anyone needs a set of < 2000 fuels rails I have some that will be up for sale.

Do you still have the 3.4L fuel rails?

POST 7Original post

Yes, I haven’t got around to selling them yet. As per my post above, I don’t think they will fit a 2001 3.4 though as my MY2001 C2 (but registered 12/2000) needed the later rails before they were changed to the 3.6 version. The set I’m selling are for <2000 3.4 if anyone wants them. If you are interested still send me a PM although I’m down in South France for another 10 days.

POST 8Original post

Should work for a 1998 model then. Are you able to PM me? I think I am unable to start conversations as I have no forum posts.

POST 10Original post

Hi guys, did you do a deal on that rail? If not, I need one!!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ended up buying a new one from Porsche
