That will probably change because I am doing 'paint to sample'.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have ordered a Cayman S locally but have been told by some non-local dealers that they can get me the car faster if I order from them. Some are talking November build dates vs December builds. While others are saying January delivery dates. One told me that it really didn't mater on build date since most of the early orders would arrive in January anyway.
Do any of you know what the real truth to all this date business is ?
Thanks Bob
that is just my point .......... no mater what the build date we still get a January Delivery ..... it that the earliest anyone was promised a delivery ??? Any dealer saying for example a December Delivery !!
I don't think anyone knows for sure at this point. We could see some in late December, but I doubt it. I pretty much got the same as all others.......Nov build, Jan delivery.
I was told today that the cayman will be here by December but for some reason it can't be released to the public until January. Can someone tell me why ?? Is this a Porsche rule or a customs rule ??
I read somewhere, can't remember where, that the Porsche will not release the Cayman for sale in North America until the close of the Detroit Auto show in mid January. I'll bet it has something to do with building the hype. Not sure but the release date of January 16 coincides with the close of the Detroit Auto show.
Sounds pretty stupid - it's not like it's a great unveiling where no one has seen the car before.
Sounds like a typical Porsche ploy though. It's been my experience that Porsche rarely consider the customer first. Just like my 2004 S sat at the US port for 2.5months until the September release date!
Right now my Cayman is in the November production. That will probably change because I am doing 'paint to sample'. This adds an additional 3 to 6 months to the order. Porsche likes to spit out the standard colors first before painting custom colors. I think I will be lucky if I am driving my Cayman in May 2006. The color will be worth the wait.
The Arrow Blue will be stunning. I almost choose to go with Riviera blue but the dealer talked me out of it. I'm sure the worth will be the wait. How did you spec the rest of the car??
Thanks- Yeah but waiting sux. My second option would be Speed Yellow. I had a 993 and a 996 that color. I liked it. Arrow Blue would just be plain cool. Plus it is the color of my race car.
My other specs are:
Paint to sample
Full leather (Black)
Leather Sport Seats
Heated Seats
Xenons
Bose (Although I may dump that)
Auto Climate control (May dump also)
PASM
Sport Steering wheel
Thats it. Spacers will be an after market thing at 1/4th the price. Same with the Sport Exhaust (I have to hear a stock one first. I loved the PSE on my 996) Short shifter will be aftermarket to for 1/3 the cost (B&M) which is the same exact part except for the color. We placed a 996 short shift (OEM) next to the B&M at it was exactly the same.
According to Autospies sources ..... Porsche has stated :
'The Cayman S will go on sale in the United States and Canada in mid January of 2006'
Looks like we all will get ours around the same time no mater a November or a December build :-(
Based on this and the fact that more options may be available for the December Build, I think I will hold off for a mid December build .... that should give them time to finish it ..... load it on the boat and get it to my dealer by mid January ..........
What do you guys think ???????
I don't think toomany more items (if any) will be available in December or January builds. Looking at Porsches past performance in this area with the 997/987 launches it will take about 6 months from the intro to get everything on board and ready. Hopefully I'm wrong, but according to my salesman these first three build months are going to be pretty slim pickings for the non-mainstream options. Porsche wants to build a decentamount of Caymans from the start, get them out on the street, and then start working on getting all the options done. Just like for the 997/987.
My order went in today and my rep quoted a November build date, with either a late Dec or Jan delivery. I'm in Northern California.
Oops, forgot to ask him if that was 2005 or 2006.......

You missed the joke, CPlavan....
I forgot to specifically ask if delivery would be Dec 2005 or Dec 2006....! I put a deposit this past March. Nothing like waiting almost a year for a car, but I guess that's a newmodelPorsche for ya.....
I got a November build date with early December delivery.
The UK launch is 25th Novemeber, at which time deliveries will start. I should (SHOULD) expect delivery around 2nd week December.
I have had my official Porsche achnowledgment of order, options and prices.

This article was on MSN Auto news today. They are still saying January

My Boxster S took exactly 8 weeks from order date to delivery. If November cars are built on the same schedule and don't really go into the hopper until Mid November then Mid January should be about right, albeit there are some holidays in there. It all depends on when Porsche actually starts building and whether or not they hold anything in port. GT3's were held up due to an ECU change that required EPA recertification, don't see that with the Cayman.
I was also told that the US dealers will get a Cayman for demo in November but it cannot be sold. So at least we will get to see it and drive it. Dealer also said that delivery will be mid January after the auto shows. I wasn't keeping up with the 987introduction but evidently this is the same timetable.
Sorry my earlier post on this subject didn't 'take.' When I ordered my Cayman, the local dealer - Hendrick Porsche of Charlotte, NC - told me that the car would be built in October or December, but would be 'held on the boat' until mid-January, when all US cars would be released simultaneously. I know I placed the first order at Hendrick, but they are not a high-volume dealer.
