Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced the key and guts with the new shell and it works worse.

Any ideas before I give up and go back in time (use the key to unlock the door)?

They remove the board from the case, use a pencil (eraser side) to put slight downward pressure on the the chip, and touch each leg of the chip briefly with a soldering iron.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I did the 'fix' listed in the forum and it worked great.
I have to press the key fob multiple times to get the car to lock or unlock and the issue seems to be getting worse (sometimes have to press 10 times or more).
The problem seems to be the same with both key fobs. I have also replaced the battery in both keys and cannot see where it made any difference.
Any ideas before I give up and go back in time (use the key to unlock the door)?
TIA
Circuit boards in key fobs going bad. Apparently they only last so long. Mine gave out years ago. Use key. Other than that, new key fob and a trip to your dealer for reprogramming to your car.
I have the same problem. I saw a DIY to fix it on Renntech but haven't tried it yet. They remove the board from the case, use a pencil (eraser side) to put slight downward pressure on the the chip, and touch each leg of the chip briefly with a soldering iron. It's worth a try. Just don't hold the tip of the soldering iron on the pins too long.
You can also buy replacement switches and install them on the fob's PCB, but you need to be a decent solderer. But, since you're going to wind up replacing them if you DON'T try to fix them, you might as well give it a try if you're even remotely inclined to do so.
I had one fob work intermittently and one not work. So I did the 'fix' listed in the forum and it worked great. Mine was an issue of weak solder points. I took battery out... unsoldered the battery tray (just heated the 2 pins and pulled out). then just kinda hot tacked all the points on the processor and resoldered the battery tray back on.
Now they both work fine but one is really worn and the button on the shell is worn down inside so I ordered another blank key+shell from ebay. I replaced the key and guts with the new shell and it works worse. Although it looked identical it was a cheap asian copy so now when I press the button it sticks sometimes and drains the battery. The problem is definitely the shell - its not a button you press per se its just thinner plastic on the shell.
