Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also swapped from a 987.2 2.9, and got andy mac’s 996.2 from there in 2023.

If I'm interested in either of the cars I'll try to encourage them to have it checked by them.

911's photograph very well so don't be dazzled by shiny clean cars.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone. I currently drive a gen 2, 2.9 Boxster which I absolutely love and have owned for 6 years. I've put 50,000iles on it and it will probably go over 100,000 miles next week. I've spotted a couple of 996.2s that I may have a look at this week and I'd like to know what everyone's thoughts are. Please see links below.

1st car has not been on the road for 3 years - that would raise an eye-brow.
2nd car has only covered 10k miles in 12 years and only MOT'd once in the last 4 years - that would raise both eye brows.
Do you want a targa..? I came from a 2.9 Boxster myself.. glorious car but always felt underpowered. I went to a 996.1 which is also a glorious machine for different reasons... particularly the kudos and the history of the 911 marque. Drive as many as you can and from your decision based on what you see, hear and feel. You'll find the 911 just feels that little bit more special. Worth considering a cab if you enjoy open top motoring... One thing I do miss. Be prepared for a less impressive interior against the 987.2 which is to be expected with at least a 7-8 year age difference.
Good luck ..!!
I know it’s done to death - but neither car mention IMS/RMS/bore score inspections which I would expect at this price point from a dealer. Other flags as others have mentioned.
Having recently moved from a 987.2 2.9 to a 996.1 cab, objectively the Boxster is the better car to drive, but doesn’t have the 911 tick.
They are 20+ year old cars so treat them like any other 2nd hand car purchase and crawl all over them and poke, prod as needed. And if you do purchase, make sure the warranty offered is worth the paper it’s written on!
Good luck
Can we rename this thread the boxa net reunion thread

I have missed a convertible this long dry summer, so I’ve tentatively put the 996 up for sale on here, as i would like the ultimate porsche convertible (imho) a 981 spyder.
But when i look at spending 5x the money to swap, i cant help feeling shortchanged/cold feet etc.
I sometimes wish id kept it simple and kept the 987.2
I look, but I’ve never seen one with as good a spec as my old one for the price i let it go for, so would always feel like a downgrade. That would always irk me.
There is a Porsche specialist around 20 minutes drive from the dealer. They offer PPI checks on their website. If I'm interested in either of the cars I'll try to encourage them to have it checked by them. So what do you all think about the prices of them?
Do you due diligence, check out the mot history on both. Google both registrations as you'll be amazed what you can find. Also put the reg's in the search box on here too as you never know. As an example, I put my vehicle reg in Google images and found out she'd been part of a 6 page comparison article in Total911 magazine which led to talking to the chief editor and owner, phil raby who is also a dealer who sold it twice...!!! He sent me more info and photos from 15 years ago....!!! The targa roof needs to have been serviced and make sure it works faultlessly as they're an expensive fix. As they're both 3.6 litre motors there's the IMS and bore score possibilities. 911's photograph very well so don't be dazzled by shiny clean cars. Get as much info as you possibly can and good luck.
Are the wheels on the 2001 car Carrera 3 style from a 997?
If they are, i can see why they were special order, they must have built a time machine to get them from the future
Have a good sit in the seats, depending on your body size you may find the 996 seat uncomfortable compared to the 987. That could be a problem if doing a lot of miles.
Of the 2 the targa would appear to be the better car but it's expensive in my view. From the mot history of the silver C4 I'd not be viewing her, just my opinion, she hasn't been very loved.
