Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I reckon they won't rub going by the 265/35 R18 that was the OEM size for 996.1 but needs further checking (depending on suspension etc.)

They make them in 245/45 and 245/40, esp the 245/45 will absorb more vibration and fill the space a bit better.

Thank you ATM, it looks like it might have to be Contis or PS5s as I am running 265 35 on the back.

There is no chance at all I will be using the car at track days.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
I have doing some homework about where to take the car for a few service items. Labour is from £100 to £128 plus VAT so far. I noticed a plug change at one place is £200 and another £300 specifically for a 996. It is interesting how much that varies although I guess OPC would be more. Also it’s getting the car there getting to work and picking it up….
I also need a pair of front tyres. How are people getting on with PS5s?
Many thanks!
Location might help in your quest to find a good Indy in your area and how much they charge. Are you a member of a club which might get you the hourly rate reduced. Being a member of Tipec or Porsche GB might help
Your profile says you're in Surrey. If so, those labour rates seem very good. OPC labour rates in the South are a lot higher than that.
I've got PS5s on my F-Type and my wife has them on her A250. They're great tyres in all conditions and look like they're wearing well BUT I prefer the PS4
S
tyres on my 997.
As I understand it the PS5 is an evolution of the PS4 giving similar performance but with less wear. The PS4
S
is a different tyre, very well regarded by 911 owners.
Especially in and around London and Surrey it makes sense from a business point of view to increase prices up until you get clientele that will pay anything without question and rave about the pleasure of doing so. I got a quote for £160+Vat hourly rate the other day and I'm sure you can find more expensive at Parr or 9E. Just my 2c but at some point it stops being about affordability and it becomes plain price-gouging.
Charles Ivy is nearest to me in Surbiton so I have to cut the ULEZ beam to get there. I have a new V5 but it says nothing about emissions at all.
The Euro system wasn't around when these cars were new and there is no CO2 NOX data either. I will wait to see if Tfl catches up, a friend had a nightmare with a private plate where his parking apps saw the new reg, Tfl didn't. It took 7 phone calls emails and scanning the new updated V5 4 times before it went through and he was let off the fine.
I'll be controversial here (putting flame suit on), There is a very good one man Indy in Surrey at Torque Boxsters. Now as you will all know a 996 and 986 share at least the front end and the basic engine. There's not much about an M96 engined car he doesn't know and has all the tools. No loan cars however.
At least contact him, what's the worst that can happen??
Assuming 18 inch wheels
PS4S available
225 40 for front YES
265 35 for rear NO
275 35 for rear YES
Continental sport contact 7 available
225 40 for front YES
265 35 for rear YES

I am quite happy with the 18s ATM.
I couldn’t afford new wheels and tyres, the front end is not very grippy but I do have 9 year old Conti SC 2s and I am sure they are the culprit.

I was going to suggest a new mid range tyre would be ok vs a premium tyre if not doing any track days.
But then i checked prices at camskill and the SC7 is only £20ish more than mid range tyres, so a bit of a no brainer.
