I just used a couple of pieces of wood approx 2 inch thick which gave more than enough space to get the filter off and drain the oil.

I also need to change the coolant changeover switch to address the temperature warning light flicking on the dash and I can hopefully get access to that while doing the gearbox service.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a summer of doing nothing with the car, I really do need to sort out a couple of days and sort out a few jobs so I can hopefully get a few days out in it before winter! It needs the filter and oil changing and I have everything needed for that but, I no longer have access to the ramp I'd arranged back in May or whenever it was so, I'm going to have to jack it up in the air and put on 4 ramps but, will that be high enough for me actually to get underneath and work on it or, am I going to have to find someway of getting it even higher? I also need to change the coolant changeover switch to address the temperature warning light flicking on the dash and I can hopefully get access to that while doing the gearbox service. Finally, the big one! The last issue the car gave me was it failed to start one day - just absolutely nothing, not even a click. I then moved it from Park to Neutral and it started first flick. So, I'm guessing that either I'm going to be really lucky (unlikely given the issues I've had with the car!) and find that it's just a build up of 25 years of crap stopping the switch failing to engage so it won't start as it's not detecting that it's in park? If I am this lucky, is it easy enough to move the gear lever trim to get in there and clean it up - I don't want to break any trim! If it's nothing as simple as a build up of crap, I'm guessing that it's going to be be the selector switch? If so, where is it and and is it easy to access and change? Hopefully with this done I can start using her...........................and start dealing with my leaking targa roof

POST 2Original post

Recently done oil and filters and good news is that you don't need to jack it up. I just used a couple of pieces of wood approx 2 inch thick which gave more than enough space to get the filter off and drain the oil. Just make sure you have at least a 10L oil drain pan

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought the car had to be level to do the gearbox oil/filter change?
