Hi all,
I recently purchased a
3D printer
and have been designing some items to use with my
Cayman
. If anyone's interested, shoot me a PM for the .STL files if you'd like to print your own.
First up is a jack locater for the lifting bar I've assembled to make jacking up the rear easier. I've copied danschy's design that he posted
here
.
I've got a low-profile Harbor Freight Daytona floor jack, but the locator may fit other Daytona jacks as well. I still haven't glued the rubber strips to the top yet that will contact the car.
Next, I've got some clips that I designed to hold the Element E50 fire extinguisher to the Rennline under-seat mount. No offense to Rennline, but I couldn't bring myself to spending upwards of $50 for the little mounts they sell.
Third on the list is a bottle cap for the Motive Products brake bleeder. It may have been user error, but I had a hell of a time getting the included pump to adequately pressurize the tank. My cap incorporates a schrader valve that can be pressurized with any tire pump or compressor - easy peasy!
Last on the list is a GoPro mount that attaches to the luggage bar in the 987 series. I had tried the one from Flat-6 motorsports, but found that the clip that attaches from the back wore out quickly. Mine is much more secure, using M4x20mm screws and heat-set inserts to lock it down. I'm still trying to dial in the settings for PETG in my prints, having used PETG-CF for this piece. The mating edges are nice and clean, but the outside is a bit rough (likely from the supports used in the print) and I had to sand it down to clean it up in the 2nd image. It's rock-solid when clamped onto the luggage bar.
Cheers.
I love that Motive bleeder
cap
- brilliant idea!
I shouldn't need to do brakes for a bit, but I definitely have to make one of those caps. My bleeder pump still works fine, but I just can't think of why I'd put in the manual labor over that.
Did you print that with PLA or something else? I assume whatever has to be resistant to the brake fluid. I'll have to get the STL for sure.
Thanks for the feedback! I printed mine in PETG, since I feel like it would be more resistant to chemicals and is certainly more heat resistant.
Of note, I tried to share the .STL with another member earlier and the file type isn't one that can be attached. I just published the design on MakerWorld, so you can grab the STL
here
.
Definitely grabbing the STL for the motive! Has the PETG held up so far?
Just visited Motive’s website to see if one could purchase a spare solid
cap
, thinking one could drill the appropriate sized hole, and using a valve stem installation tool, fabricate a similar setup. But unfortunately, doesn’t seem available.
@Garetjaxx
what size of schrader adapter did you use and would you use it again? I'm thinking about an M10 for chunky threads and max idiameter but maybe thinner threads are better??
Hi there. I used a 1/4" NPT male threaded Schrader adapter to thread into the 3D printed
cap
. I've only used it twice since I made the
cap
since I fortunately don't have to bleed brakes that often, but it has been flawless. I would certainly use it again.
