Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've ruled out a few things and have replaced both side flaps are neither were in good order.

C4s just been down and back to Le Mans roof has been fine, go to run into to town today and it appears the clamshell did not lift and go back so the roof is stuck over the shell and has stuck and will not move.

I've set the pot2 on the clamshell to 6.15Kohms (As close as I can get to 6.2Kohms) and PIWIS reports voltages within the ranges needed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Long time reader first time issue.
C4s just been down and back to Le Mans roof has been fine, go to run into to town today and it appears the clamshell did not lift and go back so the roof is stuck over the shell and has stuck and will not move. Fuse is fine can hear the motors clicking but no movement. Currently in the garage with the roof part down.
Anyone else suffered issues with rag tops and any ide where to start looking?

Thread '996 C2 cabrio roof issues'
21 Jun 2021
Hi all,
I'm in the middle of trying to sort out a cabrio roof issue on my 98 911. After the hard top was taken off from the winter, the roof didn't want to come up.
I had to do an emergency raise of the clamshell by turning the Allen screw in the potentiometer of the clamshell drive anticlockwise to raise the clamshell.
I've ruled out a few things and have replaced both side flaps are neither were in good order. I've set the pot2 on the clamshell to 6.15Kohms (As close as I can get to 6.2Kohms) and PIWIS reports voltages within the ranges needed.
The clamshell can be raised and lowered...

Essentially, you'll have to release the pressure from the roof hydraulics to raise it to then be able to manually move the clamshell.
Access to both screws are behind the rear seat panels.
I'm surprised the roof trapped the clamshell. It normally stops if it thinks the clamshell is not fully up. The potentiometer in the clamshell drive tells it what position 1 to 6 (or maybe 5) it's at, by measuring voltage through the POT an comparing to calibrated values in the roof ECU.
Thanks for that, got to the clamshell bolt and released that cannnot see the pressure relief valve anywhere pelican parts diagrams show the hole but nothing though that but empty space will go again the better light tomorrow good news is the main bolt did release issue being half my soft top is sitting on the clamshell with the glass sitting inside.. small steps and all that really appreciate your time
It's been a few years, but I mentioned it here. It's an allen screw through a hole, to the left of centre on the back seats. I think it actually site on the hydraulic fluid tank.
