Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is the fuel rail a common source of rust? Has anyone managed to replace a degraded rail without completely removing the engine?

POST 2Original post

You would need to remove the rear inlet manifold at a minimum. Should be doable but definitely a bit of a pain!

POST 3Original post

I’ve read a post on this forum where it was done in situ, I believe that they only replaced one side and needed to lower the engine for access, fiddly job. On UK cars the drivers side is usually worse but the other side will also be corroding and you don’t want to risk fuel dripping near a hot exhaust so it’s not one of those jobs you can live with for a while and it’s difficult to do a temporary repair. My car (130,000m) is is in decent condition without serious rust but the fuel rails and rear arches needed repair, I suspect many others are approaching that point.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I now have the old fuel rail off. However, the injectors seem to be really stuck in the manifold. Is there a good trick to help remove stuck/stubborn injectors from the engine? Appreciate any help if any one has experience replacing injectors in the past!

POST 5Original post

Blast them with penetrating oil and don't be afraid to get stuck in, they are pretty robust. One of those trim removal pliers might be useful. I've taken a few out and they can be a fight

POST 6Original post

I asked my Porsche Indy today, he said they should just pull out once the fuel rail clips are removed.
