Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Oh and make sure you loosen the transmission fill bolt to ensure you can remove as otherwise you can drain it and not be able to fill it (

I need to over the evenings, do an oil change, fuel filter change, plugs and coil packs - I'm going to go for Bosch/MAN/Beru which I can obtain from my local motor factors but, just wondering on which plugs to use - I've seen several differing suggestions on the right Bosch one?

Ideally I’m aiming to be in and out, as it were as fast as possible as I’m going to ask in a couple of weeks, I can use the ramp on a Saturday for the whole day so I can get the exhaust manifolds off and replaced and that likely to involve corroded fixings, extractors and inserts but, I definitely don’t want to do that job without a ramp!!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have been offered the use of a ramp next week for 3 evenings for up to 3 hours per evening which is great. I'm now trying to work out what needs doing first, making sure I've got the right parts, any special tools if needed and to make sure I know what I actually need to do!

Transmission filter and oil change. The filter doesn't seem to be listed by my local motor factors but, a quick look on ebay seems to throw up several branded ones?
And finally I need to change the gearbox change-over valve as I'm constantly getting the 'temperature failure' icon.
The first job will be the plugs and coil pack/s due to the fact that it has a misfire at the moment.
Do I need anything out of the ordinary to do this job, any tips or advice or any other jobs easier to do while I'm there?
Hopefully I might even be able to do the oil change at the same time?
I'm going to allow the second evening to carry out the transmission filter/fluid change - is this realistic and, once again, anything odd I need to be aware of?
Finally, on the 3rd evening, I'll do the change-over valve and do any of the smaller tasks that I haven't already managed to do.
Does that sound realistic?
Service, Oil change etc and Coil pack inspection are a must, question of having all the right tools
Parts just check with D911

You might want to do the oil and filter for the gearbox ,engine and diff at the same time as the transmission needs to be warmed up to get the level right I believe ...worth googling this job

I'm happy to undertake almost anything if I have all the right bits, time and a manual to follow.
I did my own cambelt service on my 928S4. I can't begin to explain how nervous I was when I turned the key afterwards!
Interesting - I hadn't considered this. My only reservation would be if I could achieve this in the 3 hour window I have? I don't want to abuse the goodwill and stay longer than welcome!
As for the sump plug drama...........been there, done that!
Do you need to get the car driving again after each 3hr session ? Fluids need to be drained asap on the ramp and let them drain for say 2hrs while you do the coil packs and plugs. Maybe go for doing one side each evening so 3 coils.plugs. The covers can be corroded and the 2 m10 bolts that hold that on often snap so be careful.
It's amazing how quickly the 3hrs will go once you're stuck in. Watch lots of Youtube to familiarise yourself with what you want to do but yes all doable and very rewarding to think how much money you'll save.
Make sure you've got a good light and a head torch
Yes, the car needs to be removed and can’t be left at the workshop, hence the time windows are restrictive.

Things haven't gone according plan over the last couple of week - primarily, I only managed to get the coil packs last week - and not the BERU ones which was a little annoying but, I was frustrated for waiting for the BERU ones as the cars just sat there, looking sorry for itself!
So, with all the service kit ready, I started to crack on with it this morning and although, very fiddley, I was making progress until I started taking the rear spark plug out of the rhs bank.
I popped the plug socket in first as obviously its limited space and then popped one of the extension bars to check it for length but realised that it was too long but, as I've put the extension bar in, it's obviously gone in far enough to click into the plug socket so, I now can't disconnect it and due to the combined length, I can't get it out as it fouls on the exhaust box mount/shield as shown in the picture.
I've spent the best part of an hour just cussing it but, it isn't coming out - any suggestions?
The only thing I can see is taking the manifold/exhaust off but, that's going to turn into an epic job - look at the condition of the fixings and, I wanted to be driving it this week for a while - I've only managed to do a few miles in it since I got it!!
If it went in it should come out too but I know it'll be a lot harder. Did you get some grips on it and use something to lever it out.? We've all bee there many times , it's all part of the joy of keeping these cars on the road and remember you'd be paying as much as £100/hr at a garage.
You want to avoid touching the exhaust system unless you're mentally prepared for pain and suffering.
Can you get something long and thin to slide past the extension bar to hold the socket and 'unclick' them? Otherwise, if all else fails, angle grind the extension bar in half and buy a new one - it'll be less painful than messing with the exhaust system!
