My indie has just replaced my steel rack lines for me as mine were corroded and burst, no leaks from the supply lines.

They do look to have been replaced before as I have paper work from years ago for steering pipes and the metal collars on the pipes are in great Nick.

I ended up just replacing both lines with new ones from Porsche for peace of mind a few months ago and also the low pressure return at the rear.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

The real cost saving is the high pressure supply line - if that can be fixed it will save owners a ton of cash as they're pricey and costly to replace with labour.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Had the misfortune at the weekend luckily at
Home on the drive to loose the power steering, jacked car up on axle stands and dropped the under tray. It’s the metal pipes
On the rack it self that have gone, I remove the Allen key bolt on the supply high and low pressure line but the pipes are in bar tight and won’t budge.
They do look to have been replaced before as I have paper work from years ago for steering pipes and the metal collars on the pipes are in great Nick.
So with this in mind I have decided to leave them in, and have dropped the subframe, a lot of the bolts had copper slip on so she’s been down before, removed the 2 corroded pipes with the rack in situ and got new ones on order.
Question is the high and low pressure supply pipes I can move/rotate although the collar that holds them in place is bar tight. Is this normal? I presume I can install the new metal pipes on the rack and try to run the car to see if they leak before I put all the subframe back up?
If I do have a leak on the high and low pressure supply lines I know these are circa £500 each to buy, how ever seems over kill for pipes that are in such good conditon. Has anyone had these lines repaired or new ends on them where they go into the rack?
had a similar issue on a 987.2, the fix never worked and in the end had to get new pipes but it was a year of issues trying to fix, for what I thought were good pipes
the cost does build up
I’m sure i read the advice to not disturb the supply pipe fittings at all if you can help it, if they leak its new pipe time.
My indie has just replaced my steel rack lines for me as mine were corroded and burst, no leaks from the supply lines.
Ive had a lot of experience with these. I had them repaired twice and the final time failed in me in the Alps leaving me with no PAS for 1000 miles. I ended up just replacing both lines with new ones from Porsche for peace of mind a few months ago and also the low pressure return at the rear.
They are expensive but are fairly easy to install. I paid £1140 for 3 of the lines (i get a good discount at my local dealer)
Just collected my car today after some preemptive maintenance:
Replacement steel pipe ends (pair) were £54 and 3 hours labour to fit along with the brake line that runs near by.
If its the metal ones on the rack itself a guy in a shed in Balsall Common makes them!

I love it when you find someone in a shed making really good parts for a fraction of the dealer price.
We really do need to make a library of places where you can get exactly things like this done.
How are they different to the copper pipes supplied by D911? A pipe bender and some pipe and you can make the lines up fairly easily by using the old ones, it's not too difficult.
The real cost saving is the high pressure supply line - if that can be fixed it will save owners a ton of cash as they're pricey and costly to replace with labour.

Whilst I have the skills to make them I dont have the tools to flange / bend the tubing which is larger diameter than brake pipe. Factor in buying the materials and knowing it’ll fit, I think its £42 well spent!
I wouldn’t be surprised if the man in the shed supplies other businesses too ;-)
I don't understand why you are removing the HP feed/return? If its the transfer pipes on the rack just change them. If you have rotated the HP feed/return then they might now weep as your might have distrubed the O Rings. Once you have changed the rack pipes.... START THE CAR and make sure its not leaking before you put it back togther!
