My softtop plastic screen has come away at the bottom (there's a post somewhere) I thought about having the plastic screen replaced but have decided to bite the bullet and replace the whole softtop with one with a heated glass rear screen.

This is quite an expensive thing and I am thinking, while the top is being replaced there are surely things that should be addressed that will be revealed with the top removed, nayone got ideas on this?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did some servicing myself a while back and had to buy some ridiculously costly and hard to get lubricants, if i remember correctly: -
Castrol Optitemp LG 2 (Nightmare to find)
SuperLube 21013Super Lube
Super Lube 85G 2105011 By LOCTITE
Can't remeber why some of these, I think they were the same makeup of Porsche recommended but not the same items. A few things I didn't do was lubricate the joints in the frame under the softtop as these werent mentioned in the Porsche service directions .. maybe silicon spray?
I also didn't check the hydraulic oil, don't remember it being difficult just awkward angles needing a syringe or something . .anyone done this?
Any other recommendations?

I was wondering the other week how often the oil is checked the the cabriolet roof. Had a bit of time to spare so thought I'd check it out - glad I did as it was below minimum.
Here's a few pointers and photos for those who would like to check theirs:
First job, open the roof so the front of it is about 12" back from the front windscreen. Then look under the rear of the roof at each side and you'll see a cable at either side that holds the back down in position when the roof is being actuated. On the end of them is a socket that locks on to a ball joint. Pull each socket off at either...

Thread 'Cab roof interior headlining replacement rear .'
12 Feb 2021
Bit of an unusual topic but as i had one to do i thought i would share it .
The front section of the interior headlining is pretty easy .. remove the roof lock then peel back in stages .. obvious so i don't mention it here .
You then unzip the rear section .
The rear section over the screen is however more challenging .
Porsche instructions .. use a screwdriver to lever up the clips and pull the lining out .
Ok but what about refitting ..
I used a sharpened flat screwdriver and a hammer .. screwdriver was VERY flat as i sanded it down !
Lift a single clip then insert something to...

Thread 'Anyone done a DIY 996 cab roof install?'
5 Mar 2018
My cabriolet roof is getting rather mullered round the rear window so I'm currently weighing up my options. I reckon with a bit of haggling I can get a decent local company to fit a new soft top for me for under a grand, worse case scenario under £1500. I can also get my hands on a brand new top delivered for under £400 and don't mind fitting it myself. I've read some right horror stories in the past (usually on the US sites) about DIY bodge soft top installs, but I've recently seen one fitted off a geezer who didn't have a clue what he was doing (self-confessed) and the finished article...

Make sure the company fitting the roof know what they are doing and have the tools to reset everything!
Get them to take pictures and post up a thread about it. Hoods are a black art!!!!
