Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I realise I am basically talking to myself here, but I raised a support query to Connects2/Stinger and they have indicated they do not sell a harness that can convert a factory fitted PCM1 with amp to an aftermarket unit.

Tested headunit, audio works fine on there as well, so it is 100% wiring for the headunit to the car.

Do I need to run a separate power feed from the fuse box to that blue/white wire?

Am going to put the old PCM1 back and make sure it has sound, and also test the new unit on my desk with a PC PSU and some audio outputs to make sure it actually works and outputs sound.

From my understanding, to make audio work, I need to 'power' the blue/white wire coming from the red connector and using the antenna wire from the headunit

Ignore the janky way I have it plugged in, I had tried to use a different adapter first and had crimped that connector to it for use in the ISO harness, I am waiting for some proper bullet connectors to turn up.

which I was using for the red connector to RCA as I have a different ISO harness adapter that is wired correctly for my headunit (and goes straight into the back of it).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2002 996 with a (removed) PCM1, phone and amp/cd changer in the frunk. No brown plug, just the black one and the multicoloured (yellow, green and blue) one. I do still have all the wiring for the PCM1 and navigation cd etc.
Using an ISO harness adapter, the new headunit powers on and works but I cannot get sound. I have this -
https://www.design911.co.uk/porsche/996--911--1997-05/harness-factory-to-after-market/
which I was using for the red connector to RCA as I have a different ISO harness adapter that is wired correctly for my headunit (and goes straight into the back of it).
From my understanding, to make audio work, I need to 'power' the blue/white wire coming from the red connector and using the antenna wire from the headunit
should
achieve this (especially after reading through the AliExpress thread and looking at the connectors that unit comes with) which will power the amp in the frunk. Is this not the case? Do I need to run a separate power feed from the fuse box to that blue/white wire?
Ignore the janky way I have it plugged in, I had tried to use a different adapter first and had crimped that connector to it for use in the ISO harness, I am waiting for some proper bullet connectors to turn up. However it should work for testing purposes temporarily, it is making a proper connection.
The only other thing I haven't done is plug in the aerial for am/fm, as I am waiting for that plug to show up.
There is also the blue/brown connector that is floating around, it was connected to the back of the old double din cage, which I thought was a bit odd. Any ideas what that's for?
Thanks!
Currently wondering if this is my issue -
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1219304-another-pccm-for-996-no-sound-problem.html
? And while Post #4 talks about up to 2001 cars and mine is 2002, I did have a PCM1. Will need to look closer, but just had a minor op on my knee so won't be bending loads or kneeling for a while.
Otherwise I am stumped. Am going to put the old PCM1 back and make sure it has sound, and also test the new unit on my desk with a PC PSU and some audio outputs to make sure it actually works and outputs sound.
PCM1 works if you plug it back in. Curiously it needed both the locking black and blue connectors (one of which is from the nav cd and the other I think the phone or cd changer) plugged in to power on, but audio from it DOES work, so it isn't a car fault.
Tested headunit, audio works fine on there as well, so it is 100% wiring for the headunit to the car. So we go back to - what am I doing wrong? Or do I have the wrong adapter cable?
I realise I am basically talking to myself here, but I raised a support query to Connects2/Stinger and they have indicated they do not sell a harness that can convert a factory fitted PCM1 with amp to an aftermarket unit. Which from all my Googling doesn't sound true, but now I guess I need work out which of the two locking connectors is the amp and which wires to pull from?
Fixed. All the various instructions saying to take the switched live off the antenna wire in the black plug etc, were frankly, wrong. I took it from the ignition switch, done.
My aftermarket head unit looks different, but I had a similar problem - no sound
What I did wrong: My Panamera 970 has a Bose sound system. This has an optical connection from the unit in the trunk to the head unit.
My aftermarket unit came with a black box that had both the fibre connection (orange wire), and an optical input (very hard to spot little black connector).
It also came with the standard RCA red/yellow cables.
My mistake was to not see the optical cable connections, and I connected the RCA connections instead. No sound. As soon as I rewatched the installation video and used the supplied Optical cable, sound worked.
