The black-and-white emblem on my three-spoke steering wheel was already scratched when I bought the car used three years ago.

I have asked my local Porsche dealership for a replacement part (in fact I wanted to get the full colour later version) and they have informed me that if I wish to replace the emblem, then I need to replace the complete airbag unit !!!

Hi, I am the proud owner of a MY 2000 (986) Porsche Boxster S which as we all know shares many components with the 996. The black-and-white emblem on my three-spoke steering wheel was already scratched when I bought the car used three years ago. I have asked my local Porsche dealership for a replacement part (in fact I wanted to get the full colour later version) and they have informed me that if I wish to replace the emblem, then I need to replace the complete airbag unit !!! Does anyone out there know of an alternative solution to the official Porsche position ? thanks a lot, Merry Christmas and happy motoring next year, Meletis

Unfortunately, that is the only option. You can stick another emblem on it with glue, but you run the risk of it becoming a deadly projectile if the airbag should ever deploy. AFJ
