Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello All, My new to me ' 06 Cayman S has an aftermarket exhaust system, and it's getting to be too loud for my taste. It has Fabspeed headers , and then Circuit Werks pipes and mufflers from there back. I would like to make it a little quieter, with either part of a stock system, or a whole stock system. The question I have is does anyone know if I can attach the stock S mufflers and tailpipe onto the Fabspeed headers ? Or, do I need to replace the headers too, to go with the stock S mufflers? Secondly, is the muffler system for the base model the same as on the S model? I have a friend with a base who has replaced his entire muffler system. He will give me his mufflers/tailpipe and says the mufflers for the base and S are the same, and only the tailpipes are different style (one outlet vs. two). I'm assuming the headers are different. So any suggestions would be appreciated as to what combo of stock parts could I splice together. Thanks much, Steve

POST 2Original post

Some one with a 987 will chime in. I have a 981 but I believe the base 987 muffler will fit. My reasoning is that the circuit werks muffler was design too work with stock manifold and works with fabspeed headers . But get under there and look to confirm. Maybe get one of your friends mufflers and compare.

POST 3Original post

You shouldn’t have any issues putting the stock system on the gasped headers . As far as I’m aware, the S and base model have the same system from the cat back, the headers may be different.

POST 4Original post

I suggest you download the PET ( Porsche ® Ersatz Teile / Porsche ® Spare Parts) catalog for the 987.1 Cayman here . Besides having full parts diagrams for (pretty much) the whole car, it gives variant part numbers between the models. It there is no variant part number listed between base/S/R etc, the part is the same. The exhaust system is on page 90. The last two characters of the part number often indicate a revision number. This might indicate a design change but often it means the part was sourced from different supplier.

POST 5Original post

Thank you, RSchwerer, That should be very helpful to me in my search. Steve

POST 6Original post

Good information. That system is a little cryptic, but if I understand it, it appears like both the manifolds and muffler systems are the same for both the Base and S model. Looks like the Base model is 9720, and the S is 9721. Thank you again, Steve

POST 7Original post

Good to know, I plan to do some exhaust work and I am glad that I won’t need to differentiate between the two.

POST 8Original post

I would put the stock exhaust on the Fabspeed headers and for get a about it.

POST 9Original post

Sounds like a good idea. I found a stock muffler system alreadybut the rear bracket assy is gone. So I’ll have to start searching for one of those. Thanks,
