Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It was fitted by a pervious owner, not so many miles ago.
Leading evidence: 'Install by a pervious owner, not so many miles ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Taking the car to OPC Cardiff in a week or 2 to get them to check the suspension out and get a price for a full MO30 change.

I'm thinking of replacing all 4 shocks, complete with bearings and bushes etc.

Should I consider replacing the top mount as well or just the bearings?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thinking of overhauling the suspension on my 996.1 C4 to get that bit more confidence from the front end. New tyres, front coffin boxes and front drop links so far.
While looking at the Design911 site they have 2 sizes for the compensation plate 3mm and 6.5mm on offer. How do I tell what size is fitted. I'm thinking of replacing all 4 shocks, complete with bearings and bushes etc. The collective wisdom of the forum would be appreciated on the right way to go.

my thoughts would be if i am spending all that time and money on updating all other suspension parts why skimp on the top mounts.... at least you will know all is well when the job is completed, my son updated his suspension on his old mr2 new bushes, sprins shocks didnt do the top mounts and a few months later he developed a clonk at the front end...guess what the top mounts were the cause...
Taking the car to OPC Cardiff in a week or 2 to get them to check the suspension out and get a price for a full MO30 change. Didn't want to get some bits and then find I needed a bit that could take days to be delivered. Suppose part of the problem is getting used to the characteristic of the car.
Like the idea of going down the coilover route but don't want to drop the car too much due to the local roads and the menace of speed bumps. A comfortable controlled ride is what I want, track type stiff setup would smash the car to bit down here.
Lokking at the front strut assembly parts from the top down there's the following
Top mount
Topmount bearing/annular contact bearing
Support ring
Then two spacers listed a 3mm and 6mm (optional)
Why are there two sizes? What's the reason?
Any thoughts greatfully received.
The tolerance color codes are different for front and rear springs and the code to use with your new springs is on the springs.
A = Running gear type code, B = Compensation part code
For (a Carrera) the front are:
1 white line = 3.0 mm thick compensation part
1 green line = 6.5 mm thick compensation part
A = Running gear type code, B = Compensation part code
For the rear:
1 white line= 0.5 mm thick compensation part
1 green line = 4.0 mm thick compensation part

- mo30 in my opinion is not the best way to go. My car has this and it’s terrible. Very crashy. It was fitted by a pervious owner, not so many miles ago. They didn’t refresh everything else, so that was one of my first jobs. So basically my whole set up is almost new. Complete with a CG (center gravity) set up.
I plan to move to the CG suspension once they have released for the C2.
Others have provided many alternative options and shared on this forum.
Of course M030 might be what you desire, just my opinion. Happy improving
