I’ve already replaced the clutch and brake switches which definitely made the CC work more often.

Suggestion

Apologies if this is old ground but did you change both clutch switches?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

But when I reattached the Servo Spring, the problem went away.

POST 1Original post

2005 Boxster base manual transmissio. My cruise control works about 75% of the time. If it is not working I just pull off the road, shut the car off and restart it, and it starts working. It’s consistent. I’ve already replaced the clutch and brake switches which definitely made the CC work more often. Why would simply shutting off and restarting consistently fix it? Anyone have any ideas? Does it switch wheel speed sensors with each start or something like that? Thanks, Scott

POST 2Original post

Apologies if this is old ground but did you change both clutch switches? There are 2, one early “top of travel” one late “bottom of travel”. Cruise will disengage if either triggers.

POST 3Original post

Yes, I changed all three switches, two clutch and one brake.

POST 4Original post

I had the same problem. While on cruise, it would turn off by itself. Then one time it went off when I hit a big bump. Looking over all the switches and stuff at the top of the pedal assembly, I found that the clutch "helper" spring was disconnected. On a parts diagram, it is called Servo Spring. There was a very tiny amount of pedal play, and I was surprised it would react to that little amount of movement. But when I reattached the Servo Spring, the problem went away. Next time you have the cruise on, try lightly holding the clutch pedal up with your foot, and see if that fixes the problem. Mine had a very little amount of travel, and you can hardly see it. Just a thought, and as we know, it could be something else entirely, too. Good luck, Steve

POST 5Original post

Thanks Steve. That’s very interesting. I’ll check that for sure. Cheers, Scott

POST 6Original post

On the 981 , this can also be caused by the brake pedal bushing. Not sure if applicable to the 987, though.
