I have not yet checked the transmission fluid--however I believe it was flushed and replaced by the previous owner a year-and-a-half ago

I have no indication that the mounts have been changed, and my exhaust does hang a little low which suggests at least the engine mounts are worn

I searched around a bit to try to find this particular problem. Lots of posts about grinding on the 3-2 shift at higher RPMs, but I haven't found anything on a lockout. After about 20 minutes of hard canyon-road driving, I broke going into a turn and heel-toe rev-matched for a shift from 3rd to 2nd, but the shifter would not go into 2nd. I then went back into 3rd, cooled things off a bit, and then I could shift up and down into 2nd without issue. started driving hard again without issue. It happened once more later on during the drive, maybe 20 minutes later, in the exact same circumstances. Once again, after I gave up on 2nd and went back into 3rd, cooled things off, and everything worked fine again.
A few notes:
The drivetrain is completely stock

I have never had any grinding or other shifting issues in the 5 months I've owned the car in all sorts of different driving circumstances.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Are you running stock engine and trans mounts?
If they're worn the whole power train could move so much during hard cornering and braking that the amount of movement over to the 1-2 gate (by muscle memory) is not enough to reach the gate and slot into it.
In that case it is not so much the cooling down but the lesser movement of the powertrain that has it all working again.
I could be wrong, though.

Transmission in my car was rebuilt by CMS a couple thousand miles ago. PO said they told him to use whatever trans oil he wanted so he went with cheap stuff. I had all kinds of issues with downshifting including 3-2 lockout, even with rev matching. Was worried he had blown up the new box but it didn�t make any sense as it only happened driving hard. Changed to Porsche OEM trans fluid, completely solved all the downshifting troubles. Haven�t had a single missed downshift since the flush.
Check shift lever/cable alignment
, mounts, fluids, in that order. Unless of course you have no record of having the fluid replaced, in which case it should be changed regardless.
