I had my windscreen replaced at a Porsche Centre but they used a local windscreen fitter and didn't appear to check his work.

The one piece rubber seal you guys have is a non-standard part which probably saves the windscreen company money (or they couldn't be bothered to order the right part and used a generic seal).

The "smooth" surround fitted seems to now cause a lot more water dribbles across the drivers side window in front of the mirror, rather than channelling it up the pillars - that alone has me tempted to look into what it would involve to replace with a new two part seal/surround i.e.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

'afternoon all.
So, I had my windscreen replaced this afternoon - can't fault the fitter from a well known organisation. But, I do have a question about the parts that he was supplied to do the job...
Windscreen - porsche one so all good there
Rubber surround - looks different. He explained that the design had changed and this is now what is fitted as OEM now. Its clearly different to all the other rubber window surrounds.
There's a gap on the left side which doesn't seem right to me. But again, was told that this is the only way that it can be installed.
Had anyone else had a replacement screen recently and if so, has the wrong part been fitted or do I need to suck it up and just get annoyed with it.
Poor quality pics so apologies there
Views welcome
I'm in exactly the same position - left the guy to it, but wish I'd hung around and insisted he reinstall using the existing two part seal/surround...
The "smooth" surround fitted seems to now cause a lot more water dribbles across the drivers side window in front of the mirror, rather than channelling it up the pillars - that alone has me tempted to look into what it would involve to replace with a new two part seal/surround i.e. is it a windscreen out job, or is it possible as a "5 hours of hell" type job with it in?(!)
Both seal parts are still available from the factory...
That doesn't look like the right seal to me...
It is a two-part seal with a rubber strip and rigid plastic/metal frame which the rubber clips into.
Sounds like your fitter didn't turn up with the correct parts and "bodged" it.
I had my windscreen replaced at a Porsche Centre but they used a local windscreen fitter and didn't appear to check his work. I have vowed never to give them business again (I had to reattach the interior trim and headlining clips correctly, plus they left the decorative frame loose and flapping due to damaging it).

Which company did you use, it definitely isn't the right seal. It is a two part trim and seal from Porsche.
The one piece rubber seal you guys have is a non-standard part which probably saves the windscreen company money (or they couldn't be bothered to order the right part and used a generic seal).
Parts are still listed in the Porsche parts database PET2 and have not been superseded or discontinued.
There is a different trim frame depending on 996.1 or 996.2 -
Sealing frame (rubber part - same for both models) - 99654153101 - £30.47 ex VAT
Decorative frame (metal trim - 996.1) - 99654154101 - £53.99 ex VAT
Decorative frame (metal trim - 996.2) - 99654154102 - £52.97 ex VAT
The metal trim has to be attached to the windscreen before it is installed which is why some companies bodge it (also as they may have damaged the original trim when removing the old screen and don't have a replacement).
Agree that doesn't look right and seconding your recommendation for Paul - he helped me out with a tiny issue I had and am definitely convinced to go straight to him in future.
It was a local chap I know screen only cost be a couple of hundred quid all in so I can't complain and honestly think the seal came with the screen. if I had paid for a genuine Porsche kit then I suppose I could get upset
Winny
I have the same on mine and it doesn't stay put. The screen was put in by the previous owner and it's in good shape, so I think I will order the correct trim pieces and have it refitted. Bummer!
Took me a long time to find this thread but it's answered a strange problem I have.
My Windscreen seal is a 1 part rubber seal that has a channel to grip over the glass and a large flap to cover the gap and lay onto the body of the car, it looks ok but keeps falling out.
I just phoned D911 as the website shows 2 parts as Whiteknight states above.
Confusing that Porsche call the rubber part a "sealing frame" ...lost in translation
You can't fit that first part (Decorative frame) unless you remove the entire screen so I'm stuck with this generic seal that keeps falling out. Actually it's not a seal it's to cover the gap between glass and body.
I'll get a photo of the cross section of this seal on mine.
At least it’s a Pilkington screen they fitted !
Removing the screen to fit the OE 2 part trim/seal is not an option unless it gets damaged badly and I have no option so I'm looking for a replacement rubber seal/cover to fit the car.
Has to be similar to the shape above and 25mm across so it covers everything.
