Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace 3k miles ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check driveshafts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Check your driveshafts to make sure the rubber boots are OK and top off your fluids.

Suggestion
Here is how I would prioritize it: if you have no record of the Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS) being replaced, I would do that and have the clutch replaced and the transmission fluid replaced all at the same time.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought for super cheap a 2000 996 C2 at 98k miles. I knew there would be problems down the line but for $2k in fixes, it has run well for 2 years and now have 109k miles. Now, time to get it smogged and have Pre-cat Oxygen Sensor issues which make sense since I've been getting crappy gas mileage <14mpg mixed driving.
Prices listed are the prices the shop quoted me for parts and labor.
Prices listed below those high prices are the low internet prices, where I could find them, for factory Porsche Parts.
Any advice in whether factory Porsche parts are unnecessary would be incredibly helpful.
Took it in to get diagnosed and got the following recommendations:
Pre Cat o2 sensors Bank 1 & 2 $1434
$323
· Oil pump tensioner $289
Couldn't find this part. Please help.
· Engine mounts $930
$461
· Bank 2 valve cover Reseal $1575
· Rear sway bar end links $392
$132
· Rear sway bar bushings $436
$45
· Front sway bar drop links $436
$342
· Rear brakes $1096
· Passenger side vanity mirror $358
· Low & high tone horn w/ updated harness $614
· Major service recommended (no history) $1425
· 2 year brake fluid service recommended (no history) $295
· Drive belt recommended $520
· Transmission service recommended (no history) $1250
Obviously, I'm not going to do it all, but what are the recommendations on the necessary deferred maintenance .
Thank you in advance for your help.

Luigisdad, I am the owner of a 2002 C2 Cab and I do a fair amount of my own work. I have a couple of comments on the deferred maintenance. First, the low internet prices for Porsche brand products looks higher than you can get at Pelican which sponsors this forum. Second, you do not have to get the Porsche brand product - except for the passenger side vanity mirror - where there is no other option. In many cases, the OEM may not even be Porsche. Porsche just puts it in their own box. I look at it this way. If it is a part like a brake pad or rotor that is going to wear out anyway and I'm not racing the car, I get the OEM or similar. If it is something, that if it breaks, I am going to be stuck on the side of the road, I will pay for a brand name. Here is how I would prioritize it: if you have no record of the Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS) being replaced, I would do that and have the clutch replaced and the transmission fluid replaced all at the same time. This is $$$$. If you would rather not spend $5K on that right now, I would do the following: O2 sensors, oil and filter, air and cabin filter, drive belt and tensioners (and while you have the belt off, you should replace the water pump. The original has a composite impeller and you don't want that flaking off into the engine). Brakes and pads - but you can wait until the warning light comes on. Followed by engine mounts, but only if they are leaking or otherwise obviously not working. Spark plugs and coils. Pelican has tutorials for all of these. Next I would do the valve covers only if leaking. Check your driveshafts to make sure the rubber boots are OK and top off your fluids. These things cover a lot of your major service anyway, so you can cross that off the list. Sway bars bushings and links can wait and the links require an air wrench so you may have to go to the shop for that. Oh, you didn't mention it, but how old is the battery and when was the last time the brake fluid was changed? Batteries don't last forever and brake fluid absorbs water over time. Theo

Thank you very much for your detailed reply. Good news and not good news.
1. IMS bearing replaced by prior owner. Receipts included.
2. Oil change done 5k miles ago so I'm good with that.
3. Air filter changed 3k miles ago
4. One of the CEL codes was torque converter. Hope not to do Tiptronic service
5. Changed battery last year.
6. All other stuff needs to be done sooner or later.
Thank you again.

This is what i plan to do on my 120K miles 997. All of it applies to you.
Water pump and thermostat (Get the Porsche ones)
Accessory belt, all three pulleys
AOS
Coolant tank
Heat exchanger seals
Battery, and + cable
Starter and Alternator rebuild
Spark plugs, and ignition coils
Oil, air, fuel filters
Brake rotors and pads for the front
Front tires
Shock mounts for the rears
Heater box in the front.
All fluids including the tiptronic.
All those are running me $4,000 in parts. Labor is free (to me).
In your case, you want to add O2 sensors to that list. For the suspension bushings, those are ... as needed, as wanted, as cash allows.
Deferred maintenance catches up, and then you pay through the nose. You drive a Porsche, you just ... pay.
