Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Chrome plating is a pig to remove and you run the risk to mark the alloy surface below beyond use when using some sort of blasting.

This is my favorite style Porsche Factory wheel and it comes in off-set specs for 997 Turbo and in 2008 was available in off-set specs for Carrera and Boxster/Cayman, and the available finish was Polished with Dark Gray or Polished with Black, all in 19"...

Suggestion
They would have had to outsource the plating process to get them chromed, whereas they are equipped to polish their wheels in-house to a mirror-like finish (similar to the process used by BBS on the 40th anniversary Carrera II wheel).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
new to the forum and looking to buy a 996 C4S. One of the car I am interested in has upgraded wheels. I believe these are style 56 usually found in 997 Turbo but I can be wrong. Since they are shinny chrome finish, I wonder if they are real OEM or aftermarket replicas since I thought that 56s dont come in that finish from Porsche. Also wondering if chrome wheels can be refinished either in gun metal or powder coated in black
Thanks a lot
The original forged wheel was manufactured for Porsche by Fuchs.
They would have had to outsource the plating process to get them chromed, whereas they are equipped to polish their wheels in-house to a mirror-like finish (similar to the process used by BBS on the 40th anniversary Carrera II wheel).
As such I doubt the OEM offer was chrome plated.
The wheel pictured does look chrome plated so I would say it was either done after sale to a Fuchs/OEM wheel or the whole wheel is a replica of the OEM wheel.
It looks like 18" whereas 997 had 19". If 18" the wheel is almost certainly aftermarket/non OEM
Chrome plating is a pig to remove and you run the risk to mark the alloy surface below beyond use when using some sort of blasting. Chemically removing I don't know how well that works.
You cannot powercoat onto chrome plating
OP - Ive never heard of style 56, but hey.

(Rear) for p/n 19 turbo wheels. Not sure if the polished or chrome had separate numbers. Anything can be refinished. There are replicas out there. Fronts are 56 offset, rears 51.
That is definitely not an OEM finish. This is my favorite style Porsche Factory wheel and it comes in off-set specs for 997 Turbo and in 2008 was available in off-set specs for Carrera and Boxster/Cayman, and the available finish was Polished with Dark Gray or Polished with Black, all in 19"...
They were never available with a chrome finish, so not OEM, ( or if it is an OEM wheel that has been chromed, that is a real shame)..verifying the part number on the back would confirm..
